You mention in your first post feeling "claustrophobic" with the mask on, and that your pressure was set to 8.

During my sleep test, I felt claustrophobic, like I was suffocating, until they turned up the pressure. Even standing up, 8 wasn't giving me enough air. I'm now pretty happy at 13, although sometimes my lungs feel overinflated and if I open my mouth, my cheeks inflate like a chipmonk's!

you can always lose weight; if you are 5'6" and 230 lbs you have an exceptionally large amount of weight to lose. there are plenty of smaller masks you can wear to help with the closterphobia.

i look at it one of two ways, do what is needed to get healthy of battle health problems the rest of your life.

I am not skinny but it sounds worse than it looks. Several Doctors told me it is more than just weight ,I have a very narrow airway. Losing weight would not hurt though. I was bigger. Thanks Brian

While there's a 6 month wait at one Sleep Center, that might not be the case elsewhere. Do you have a choice in where you go? How about finding one with a shorter waiting list?

I have a place in mind. I just changed insurance yesterday. Hopefully the wait is because they are so good? Thanks for the reply. Brian

Weight loss is not the cure all for everything. Sure, it would lessen the effects of some of the problems caused by sleep apnea, i.e. hypertention, heart problems.
The doctor told me my throat was wound so tight it's a wonder I can breathe when I'm awake. ENT's have told me no amound of weight loss would lessen my sleep apnea.
