The only reason I can think of for not plugging it into a power strip is if the safety switch is triggered then the power strip shuts down the power. Why an extension cord would do the same thing is beyond me.

The power strips that have surge protectors in it are a good idea. Most power strips cord is bigger gauge than most household extension cords. Mine is plugged in to a power strip no problem.
