You are correct.  Just a little too much pressure from the mask causes mild soreness which makes it hard to fall back asleep once I am aware of it.  Conversely, leakage can cause me to wake up as well.  So I am aware that the loosest fit which gets a good seal is important.  Occasionally, I have woken up so comfortable that I think something has gone wrong, but when I open my mouth, sure enough, I hear the telltale pressure escaping and realize it has been working perfectly.

I went up to large pillows one night, but had to go right back down to medium.  I will look on this forum to see how people like the Respironics Nuance Pro Mask compared to the plain Nuance.  My understanding is that the Pro has gel straps instead of fabric.  I thought the fabric may be more comfortable, but perhaps the gel straps keep it from moving around.

They gave me a mild sedative in my sleep study.  I think I will look up what that was and try it again.  Maybe it will relax me just enough to let me go back to sleep when I wake in the night.  I have tried Benadryl in this capacity because it usually makes me groggy.  No help.

Oh, and my cousin has been on cpap for over 30 years.  He says he doesn't use a humidifier.  I tried that one night.  No help.  The first night I ever used my cpap I didn't know where to set the humidifier, so I put it on a medium setting.  I woke up dry and congested, and have been that way ever since. That made me turn up the humidifier to the maximum where it has stayed other than the night I used no humidity.  I would like to be able to go back in time to the day before I tried cpap to see how congested I was then.  I have mild hay fever type allergies, but was not aware of being constantly congested for more than a week at a time in the past.

Thanks!

Don't overlook the use of a Resmed Airfit P10 nasal pillows mask. It is the lightest and quietest interface I know of. The head gear is not terribly durable, but the price is right at about $68 for a complete mask with fit kit.

Thanks. I'm going to try one of those.
