I suspect your odds of having a medical emergency like stroke, heart attack, etc. shoot up quite a bit on any night you don't use your CPAP.

However, the odds of you having the medical emergency any one night are pretty low.

Some people are probably a lot more at risk. If you're "on the edge" of having a heart attack or stroke already, and you've got really bad apnea, the odds are worse. I think of it as being like a person with heart trouble doing some really heavy exertion.

If you didn't suffer any obvious effects, the long term harm done was probably small. However, you may well do a little harm every night you go without.

I have lost about 20 + pounds and weigh about the same as when I first got my c-pap. I have no heart problems that I know of and not so much belly fat. I think it was minimal if any damage. I did loose a client a yr ago Feb 24th and she was in a chair in the family room mid day and fell asleep and never woke up. Age just 40. She had used her c-pap that previous night and used regularly. She was quite obese and had other health issues. I recently checked on FB for her anniversary of death and discovered her husband remarried 12/12/12, less than 10 mos later. Heck, for a relationship to advance to marriage takes a few. I thought that odd, and Carol would probably be hurt if she knew. He was in Florida when she died and new wife is also from Florida. Just saying, hummmmmmm
