I first learned about this issue from a report on our local TV station. It was not immediately clear that the overheating problem related to the Dream Station TWO, and not the DS ONE. Since I received a re-furbished DS1 as a replacement for the machine that was recalled, I panicked, until I sorted it out.
From the early incomplete and confusing information on this issue, it SOUNDS like the problem is that if the water in the humidifier runs out, the heater may not turn off, thus causing the entire machine to overheat.
Is this what is really the issue?
Can the problem be avoided by ensuring there is always a sufficient water level in the humidifier?

There is insufficient info at this time to make conclusions but running dry is one of the possibilities. IMHO that should have been accounted for in their testing procedure.

Gideon, I agree. There is obviously a gross failure of design and/or production (bad batch of temp sensors?). But if we can determine that running dry is a major source of overheating, then I think people could be more comfortable in continued use of their DS2.
If running dry is really the problem, Philips' statement of "no problem when used properly" does not give people much guidance. I guess they don't want to highlight the specific design flaws in the machine.
