RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS - Sleeprider - 01-29-2024 I'll have to monitor the local news tonight to see how this is being covered. Philips Respironics operates it R&D and corporate functions in Murrysville, and manufacturing, assembly shipping at several other local communities like Murrysville and Lower Burrell. This will clearly have a significant impact locally, and considering the timing of this, it seems by February 1 there may be drastic cuts in the work force, particularly assembly. Here is the article in the local TribLive news that covers Westmoreland County. https://triblive.com/news/world/philips-respironics-suspends-u-s-sales-of-cpap-other-breathing-machines-as-part-of-federal-consent-decree/ PHG (is currently down 5.34% at $21.545. RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS - Crimson Nape - 01-29-2024 I wonder if this decree affects the medical ventilators as well. The news article led me to interpret it as for end user devices only. It seems that Philips shoots themselves in the foot every time they turn around. They make Barney Fife look like Dirty Harry. - Red RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS - btreger - 01-29-2024 GoodBye DreamStation Nicko ends this crazy day with a video: GoodBye DreamStation - Philips Stops Selling DreamStation In U.S (youtube.com) RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS - srlevine1 - 01-29-2024 Another story.... The agreement, announced by Philips early Monday, comes more than two years after the company pulled millions of its popular breathing devices off the shelves after admitting that an industrial foam fitted in the machines to reduce noise could break apart and release potentially toxic particles and fumes into the masks worn by patients. It could be years before Philips can resume sales of the devices, made in two factories outside Pittsburgh. The company said all the conditions of the multiyear consent decree — negotiated in the wake of the recall with the Department of Justice on behalf of the Food and Drug Administration — must be met first. We still haven't seen replacements per the recall. RE: Philips Discontinues Numerous Devices and Halts Dreamstation Sales in the U.S. - btreger - 01-30-2024 What a Consent Decree means for Philips Consent Decrees are often issued in response to serious concerns about the quality and safety of medical products produced by a company. This may include issues such as contamination, inadequate testing procedures, or other violations. When a company fails to address identified violations despite warnings and regulatory actions, the FDA may resort to a consent decree to enforce compliance and protect public health. Consent Decrees require the company to implement corrective actions to address the identified violations. This may involve facility upgrades, process improvements, or changes in quality control procedures. Companies under a consent decree may be required to undergo independent audits to assess and verify compliance with regulatory standards. These audits are often conducted by third-party experts to ensure objectivity. Additionally, consent decrees typically include provisions for ongoing monitoring and reporting to the FDA. Companies may be required to provide regular updates on their progress in implementing corrective actions and maintaining compliance. In some cases, the FDA may impose financial penalties as part of a consent decree. These penalties can be significant and serve as a deterrent to non-compliance. I just answered your question on the Recall Thread RE: Philips Discontinues Numerous Devices and Halts Dreamstation Sales in the U.S. - TimaaaaaaaahRocks - 01-30-2024 (01-30-2024, 02:25 PM)btreger Wrote: What a Consent Decree means for Philips If the first public disclosure of the consent decree terms is halting all US sales you can bet your a$$ that the DOJ is going to impose a substantial fine. Since it took this long to negotiate a severely punitive deal I suspect criminal charges are probably on the table. The scientists said "unacceptable", the business guys said "let 'em eat foam!" A few fools make the dumbest business decisions possible and not only did they needlessly harm patients, now they are going to cost a few thousand MORE people their jobs. |
