You might research whether clenching jaw is compatible with mouth tape, I think it could help you. The mouth tape especially if applied when the lips are pursed, will stop you from mouth, breathing, and I'm not an expert at all but intuitively it would make sense to me that in order to let go of clenching one's jaw, it could help to trust that we won't breathe through the mouth or relax the jaw to a position that would compromise the airway. I always imagined that mouth tape was restrictive, but in reality I find it very supportive. I don't have to worry that my jaw won't drop. A lot of people like Cover Roll, I'm using Buteyko which I find ideal for me.

I had a horrible sleep last night, at one point I woke up biting hard on the tip of my tongue and with a splitting headache. I feel like the seal is the issue? I move around so much when I sleep that I really prefer the hose coming out the top of my head, as I have with the P30i. Are there any other masks like this I could try? When I had the elephant-type hose, I would wake up every time I rolled over and have to swing it over with me. But I'm worried that any mask will shift as I flip around constantly. I'm really at a loss. I haven't slept well in months and have huge bags under my eyes all the time. I'm supposed to start a new job and I can't imagine working this job in this condition.

Hmm, I wonder. I don't breathe through my mouth, so I never considered the tape. I guess it's worth a try.

I made some adjustments with my headgear and actually felt like I slept a little better the past two nights. I wish I understood these charts better than I do. What changed?

It looks like you brought the leaks down a good bit, that could've helped

You asked earlier about other head mounted masks, I love my DreamWear. I use the pillows with 2 nostril holes instead of one.

For mask fit for these, my understanding is that you don't want the head frame to be pulled into much of a curve to get it tight enough, that would indicate need for smaller frame. If it's too small it's the opposite, it rides too close to the face. I just switched to small pillow with mine and I get much less mask displacement from the pillow sleeping on my side.

I think I had the DreamWear when I used a DreamStation CPAP. I'll look to see if I still have the mask.

Tightening the frame into too much of a curve is what I may have been doing, so it's interesting you mention that. I usually secure the strap under my hair on the back of my neck, to keep it from sliding around. I think pulling it down that far on the back of my head was causing it to curve and that resulted in leaks. Hopefully I've solved that, at least for now.

I decided to try the full-face mask I have, which is the AirFit F20. I move around a lot when I sleep, so this mask isn't the most comfortable for me. On top of that, it gets really hot inside. If I continue using it, I assume I need to adjust my heated tube? Here is the data from last night. Any advice is appreciated!

That's looking promising. It'll take a little while to get some of the kinks out. It's hard to tell how your pressures are interacting with your leaks.

Did you change the mask setting on the machine? That can make a big difference in how it reads your breathing if you didn't.

I'd be inclined to try lowering your top pressure down to 14.5 or 15. When the pressure goes up to 16, it might be causing discomfort and leaks with the mask that then set you into pressure swings. After that, you could try increasing your minimum slowly so that you get used to the exhale pressure. I think sometimes a narrower range can be both more comfortable and more effective.

So you think I should keep going with the full-face mask? I did change the mask setting on the machine, believe it or not.

I'll lower the pressure for tonight and see how it goes.

Thank you so much!

I think it's worth keeping the same mask for several nights if you can, though if it feels like a disaster of course switch it out. But you can't get a good feel for the new mask in one night. There's just too many variables changing it once, so now that you've started the experiment, I think it's worth continuing. I have no idea which mask will be better for you in the long run, but I'd give it a few more nights.
