Yes, they are in potential conflict. You might want to concentrate on whatever will help you feel sleepy at around the time you ought to be going to bed. This includes not napping, getting up at the same time every day, avoiding screens before bedtime, avoiding caffeine after [whenever, given your metabolism], avoiding alcohol and food in the evening, and creating a wind-down routine that works for you. Weirdly enough, for me the wind-down routine is getting my Bleep mask on; as soon as I prep my skin, my eyelids start to droop. For others, a little meditation or gentle stretching helps, or a warm bath.

If you're doing all that and don't feel sleepy at the right time, try going to bed anyhow and giving yourself 20, even 30, minutes to fall asleep. Get up if it doesn't work. And get up at the same time in the a.m. even if you were shorted on sleep the night before.
