RE: New Member - me50 - 11-18-2013 My understanding is that cpap machines don't treat centrals. Welcome. I am sure others will have information to add to what you have already gotten. RE: New Member - eviltim - 11-19-2013 Lukie, having tried both I found the Quattro Air to be more comfortable. There are several difference. The Quattro Air is all one piece and has a different type of headgear that is more intrusive but, in my case, I found it necessary to keep the mask over my nose, which is visibly deviated. There are several suppliers that have great return policies on resmed masks, so if you are having trouble with one, don't hesitate to try another. I will also second the suggestion to try a mask liner. Good luck with your CPAP treatment! CPAP machines that treat central events are called ASVs or VPAP or similar. They vary the pressure but they are still CPAPs. Thanks, I'll let the ResMed ad makers know this. Sometimes they don't know what they are talking about. "Enhanced AutoSet is now able to differentiate between obstructive and central sleep apneas, so you can be confident that you are always receiving appropriate therapy and pressure." S9 AutoSet – A complete comfort system The S9 AutoSet combines an enhanced algorithm with Climate Control and whisper-quiet Easy-Breathe technology for a clinically exceptional system that improves patient comfort and long-term compliance. Features • Enhanced AutoSet with central and obstructive event detection and response • Ramp in AutoSet and CPAP modes • Easy-Breathe technology for unrivalled radiated and conducted noise control • Easy-Breathe expiratory pressure relief (EPRTM) – Option of EPR in both AutoSet and fixed CPAP modes • Optional Climate Control • Absolute humidity delivery regardless of environmental changes • Temperature control for maximum comfort • Algorithm compatibility with H5iTM humidifier, 15 mm SlimLineTM and ClimateLineTM tubing plus 19 mm standard tubing Data reporting I may have misunderstood the first bullet point in this ad. The enhanced AutoSet algorithm on the S9 AutoSet now includes CSAD for the classification of apneas using the FOT. CSAD was extensively tested using patient simula- tors, normals simulating obstructive and central apneas and clinical trials. CSAD correctly identified and the enhanced AutoSet correctly treated obstructive, central and unknown apneas with a very high degree of accuracy. The enhanced AutoSet and CSAD algorithms have been shown to treat patients appropriately, including those with predominantly central apneas, and without causing disturbance to sleep. It appears the enhanced autoset can deal with a few central apneas when they occur using an apap. The machine does not respond to central apnea (open airways), just detect and score the apnea if lasted 10 seconds or more [deal means ... the machine does nothing when central apnea detected] Also the machine have no way of knowing if you,re asleep or awake when apnea scored RE: New Member - Lukie - 11-19-2013 That's too bad because I have both central and obstructive. Hopefully the centrals will diminish as the obstructive part is treated. RE: New Member - Tez62 - 11-19-2013 Lukie, I have both as well and only use an Auto, the way my specialist explains it to me if he can fix my obstructives hopefully my brain will get the blood and oxygen I have been deprived of and that will fix my centrals, so far it has worked my AHIs are around 2-3 and of those two thirds are still centrals but they have come down from 30. Since the poster was talking about the S9 auto set, it seems everyone would understand what I was talking about. EDIT: added auto set to my post |
