I 2nd what QAL said.  It is better to be safe than sorry in your situation IMO.  I did some research on hyperinflation/pneumothorax also.  

If it makes you feel any better, when I trialed my first ventilator, the pressure settings were too high, and I felt like my lungs were going to explode (pop!).  After reducing the pressure(s), we were able to find a sweet spot of both comfort and therapy.  

Do you experience any pain in your lungs/chest area with hyperinflation?
