RE: Best Backup CPAP Machine Options? - Lucid - 11-11-2024 Nightynight: Aye, there's the rub. SOMEWHERE there must be the sleep doctor equivalent of the psychologist who certified that his/her patient's mental distress could only be treated with an emotional support peacock! My doctor doesn't mind that I adjust the pressure myself but I'm not sure I could convince him of this. Maybe he is under some obligation to follow certain protocols (even if I am paying for it myself rather than getting Medicare to agree); I don't know how his group practice works. I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask. Alfie, thanks, that makes sense. RE: Best Backup CPAP Machine Options? - Lucid - 11-11-2024 Cate, good to know that Supplier #2 is so reliable! They have some excellent prices now. They all have been trained that they can kill you or something. I went to a pulmonologist once and he said they were only for Heart failure patients. Funny you say that...I asked a DME about a BiPap to help my flow limits despite my AHI being under control with a CPAP and they went off on me about how they can cause severe central apneas and make me even worse than I was before and can be a real hazard to my health...is there any truth to any of that?? RE: Best Backup CPAP Machine Options? - Deborah K. - 11-13-2024 When Sleeprider and others told me I needed a Bilevel rather than the Apap I'd been using, I went to my regular (not sleep specialist) doctor and explained why I needed a Bilevel. He prescribed my ResMed AirCurve 10 Vauto. I love my Vauto! Sleeprider herded me through finding exactly what I needed to emphasize to my doctor in a very long thread. Here's a link to it if you want to see how it came about: https://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread-Flow-Limits-How-to-Upgrade-CPAP-to-Bilevel?highlight=flow+limits+bilevel I hope it works for you too! RE: Best Backup CPAP Machine Options? - jake79 - 11-14-2024 Wow it sounds like we have/had the same issues with AHI being fixed but having flow limits and still not feeling rested. I had someone send me a free Dreamstation 1 BiPap to try out that had been remediated, cleaned and sanitized but I'm just trying to convince myself it is safe to be used. I tried it on for a few minutes and the incoming pressure was so high it was about to blow my nose off...these things seem a bit complicated too. My insurance is so bad that it's cheaper for me to just buy one used though so I really don't need a doctor to prescribe it for me right? |
