RE: Peeing a lot at night?? - Moriarty - 01-15-2015 The Cardio-vascular explanation is the one given by my GP and by my Sleep Specialist. The first night I was on CPAP was the first night in years where I did not get up on the hour every hour to pee. It's kind of like when I have a serious shortage of breath because I ran across the house to through the miserable cats out before the puppies attacked. My o2 drops severely and I wet myself. Big house? RE: Peeing a lot at night?? - eviltim - 01-17-2015 Here's my simple, totally nonscientific explanation. If you get woken up by your machine or your apnea, you are more likely to have to actually get up and use the restroom than if you were asleep and ignoring the need to urinate, because you have to in order to get back to sleep. Not because you've got a lung full of pee, but rather because of apnea events your o2 level drops, and as a defense the kidneys go into overdrive to pull fluid out of the bloodstream so there is more room for air. Then you wake up and go to the bathroom, go back to sleep, and the whole cycle starts again. My situation also, went from 5-6 times a night to 1-2. I am so grateful for this. Thank you for asking the question and having it explained to me. If nothing else I am very thankful for this win in the whole sleep apnea process. RE: Peeing a lot at night?? - TheManseHen - 01-18-2015 Hey Gabby, How long in time, or at what point in your AHI levels, did you see the reduction in night-time trips to the loo? I've seen a reduction but not as far as I'd like to. Thanks, Susan RE: Peeing a lot at night?? - Gabby - 01-18-2015 (01-18-2015, 05:36 PM)TheManseHen Wrote: Hey Gabby, Hi Susan, I have been using the machine for about a year now and I noticed the difference in my trips to the loo almost immediately. As I said I was going up to half a dozen times a night, sometimes more, it was driving me crazy. This symptom of sleep apnea is nearly always one of the first to go once you get on the machine. Bare with it and I am sure you will continue to improve as the days go by. Good luck! I noticed also that my need to urinate during the night has fallen considerably since starting treatment. In fact one of the reasons I didn't want to go to a sleep lab was this little 'problem'. I've always had the problem even during the day of urination more frequent than most dudes, but the problem during the night is improving. RE: Peeing a lot at night?? - DariaVader - 01-19-2015 IMO all polyuria and especially nocturia should be considered a great reason to get a sleep test. Since the very first night on cpap 2 months ago, I have been blessed with not needing to get up at night to pee. In my whole life there is not a single night previous to cpap in which I did not pee, and by the time I started therapy it was anywhere from 1 to 10 times variably. Since beginning, I have gotten up to pee twice and in both cases was already awakened by something else. Not just nocturia, but polyuria during the day has decreased as well. markedly. When I wake, my bladder is not ready to pop, either. and it used to be. It is a problem I have suffered all my life. I have been to specialists over the years and all they do is give me ghastly tablets that dry my mouth out something shocking and not really the bladder. Since being on Cpap this problem has all but gone away after suffering for the best part of fifty years or more. RE: Peeing a lot at night?? - OpalRose - 01-19-2015 Hi everyone, Just need to add my two cents. As long as I can remember I have had to get up to pee at least every other hour...no exaggeration! I didn't know I had Sleep Apena. Even at work, I would have to use the bathroom every couple of hours. Started CPAP Therapy end of October 2014, and noticed a difference almost from the start, although I would still wake up once or twice to go. But the last 3 weeks have been amazing. I sleep straight through the night. My daytime trips have lessened quite a bit too. There are a lot of benefits to CPAP, but this is number one on my list! Rosemarie |
