RE: Recall of Philips CPAPs - OpalRose - 06-14-2021 Moderator note: All threads concerning the DreamStation recall will be merged with this thread. RE: Recall of Philips CPAPs - Ockrocket - 06-14-2021 So is there somewhere we can go to simply check the serial number of our machine to see if it comes under the recall notification? I'm not sure if mine is a DS1 or DS2. RE: Recall of Philips CPAPs - SarcasticDave94 - 06-14-2021 If you've gotten your DreamStation prior to 2021, you very likely have original DreamStation. RE: Recall of Philips CPAPs - Ockrocket - 06-14-2021 (06-14-2021, 08:15 PM)SarcasticDave94 Wrote: If you've gotten your DreamStation prior to 2021, you very likely have original DreamStation. Dreamstation Auto CPAP (500X150) purchased in 2016. So I guess it falls under the recall. My sleep apnoea diagnosis was always questionable, very low numbers when tested, and done mainly to find a way to get my professional driving licence back at the time. Now I find it may have put me at greater risk than apnoea. Covid has put me out of business now anyway - as a professional hire car business my customer bookings dropped to almost zero because nobody was going to the airport or medical specialist appointments (my two primary types of bookings).. and little work with the Friday-Saturday night pub and club customers. Now I'm retired, with no pension and no superannuation.. and have to rely on my wife to give me an allowance. Bloody lying Government that promised retirement and a full pension at 65 years of age when I started work 50 years ago, then changed the rules for people my age. I stopped using my CPAP late last year, but I guess I should look at refund and replacement options - I wonder what applies to us in Australia. RE: Recall of Philips CPAPs - Ockrocket - 06-14-2021 I've found a link to the affected machines.. it is not only the Dreamstation range, it includes many of the other Philips CPAP / ASV and other types of airway machines as well. https://www.usa.philips.com/healthcare/e/sleep/communications/src-update#section_2 RE: Recall of Philips CPAPs - SarcasticDave94 - 06-14-2021 Good find Ockrocket. RE: Recall of Philips CPAPs - brianc18t - 06-14-2021 Well pulling the foam out doesn't look easy! Check out this Youtube video where a guy replaced the blower motor: about 5 min into the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPX-SDSUW7E Looks like you would need replacement parts. Well, I figure I didn't use ozone, I don't use it in a high humidity setting (I use AC in my house), my unit is never hot/never above about 80 degrees, and the humidifier is after the foam (as far as airflow is concerned) so it seems like I would be low risk and running the humidifer should have no impact on the foam degrading. I feel for the folks that used ozone! Most of them are probably high level germaphobes and adding the stress of possibly breaking in carcinogens and little pieces of foam will be extra stressful to them. : ( RE: Recall of Philips CPAPs - SuperSleeper - 06-14-2021 I originally thought this might be a marketing ploy by Philips to get patients to upgrade to the new DreamStation 2 machines... But the scope of this recall is so wide, affecting so many different machines, that if that was the original intent (marketing), then this Philips effort has failed miserably. From the affected models link above, are all the System One (50 & 60 series) machines affected by this as well? I'm running a PR System One BiPAP Auto (DS760). So I'm wondering if this model is under recall also? RE: Recall of Philips CPAPs - racprops - 06-14-2021 OK I took drastic action. I took my machine apart and I found the chamber around the fan with the black form is a sealed unit. As it is nearing my bed time I was facing a night or many nights without it so I cut the sides open and removed the form. Yes there is slightly more noise. But the cause of the danger is now out of my Dreamstation BiPap machine. I found no evidence of any form in the fan or housing. I will tomorrow system report. RE: Recall of Philips CPAPs - koala1 - 06-15-2021 I’ve been talking to my person in charge from Phillips Japan. Recall is decided only in US, other countries are still under consideration. They don’t offer Dream Station 2 in Japan and don’t know if they will ever been. Again nothing is decided. Wonder what should I do now |
