RE: Can somebody talk me into a nasal mask? - Doublereeder2 - 10-23-2021 I tried numerous masks, nasal, full face, pillows until I found the Dreamwear cushions. I am a smaller person and needed the small frame so sizing is very important. I tried chin straps, both commercial and ones I made but once I figured out how to keep my mouth shut with the tongue to the roof of my mouth technique plus the right level of fit for the headgear, my leaks have mostly disappeared.
Having both allergies and asthma that results in nasal congestion and coughing that can be a challenge, it all seems less with the cushions. The cushions actually help my breathing through my nose! When allergies and asthma are acting up, I use Flonase before bed, and sometimes a dose of albuterol for the coughing.
This certainly is a journey. Good luck in finding a great mask. But most nights with the nasal masks I end up with mouth wide open... I don't know what it is, but I got lots of OA custers with F20, and none with nasal mask. My first mask was a full-face cradle mask, the F30i. Initially, my AHI wasn't bad, but after a few days, it would shoot up to 6 or 8, and I wouldn't feel rested in the morning. I think when the AHI was that high, there must have been clusters of OA. Both being full-face, I attribute it to the portion that covers the mouth and bottom hitting just under my bottom lip, and pushing it back with the bottom straps. That's what nasal masks do not have. That's the only thing I can think of. It could be a possibility that it's pushing the jaw back. Or the bottom straps are causing head to tilt and causing chin-tuck. When I look back at the FL graph for days I wore my F20. FL was drastically higher! For a long time, I didn't get air leaking through my mouth because I wear a mouth guard, which keeps my mouth shut. But, I lost some weight recently, and noticed that air is going in through the side of my tongue (through the side of the cheeks in the mouth), and my mouth open slightly on occasion (maybe a reaction from built up air the mouth). So, I had to start using tape, and not much issues besides rare occasion air being built up in the mouth that cause arousals'. I would try a strong tape. I use this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F9JFBBY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 RE: Can somebody talk me into a nasal mask? - yankees123 - 10-23-2021 Just saw that F&P came out with a new mask called Evora Full. Not yet available in US but probably will be real soon. Looks interesting RE: Can somebody talk me into a nasal mask? - pholynyk - 10-23-2021 Not to be confused with the Lotus Evora... when you do a google search RE: Can somebody talk me into a nasal mask? - SarcasticDave94 - 10-23-2021 The Lotus Evora...Priced about $96K for manual, about $99K for Auto. I suppose with spirited driving, it may alter your breathing. Now the other Evora by Fisher and Paykel, it's probably a bit cheaper. RE: Can somebody talk me into a nasal mask? - cathyf - 10-23-2021 Well I prefer a stick shift, so that's more economical, right? RE: Can somebody talk me into a nasal mask? - SleepyCPAP - 10-25-2021 cathyf, I used the Tap Pap for a long time. I enjoyed that it didn’t have straps. A dentist also welded a piece of plastic strategically so my teeth clamped at the bite, not the molars, when I was clamping down. I’m now using the Bleep mask, again no straps. As long as I get it to stick without seal issues it works really well. But I open my lips with both the Tap Pap and the Bleep, so I have to tape too. - SleepyCPAP RE: Can somebody talk me into a nasal mask? - April - 10-31-2021 I got a Respironics Dreamwear mask. It is comfortable and I get no leaks. I barely realize it's on my face. So nice not to have plastic touching my whole face. RE: Can somebody talk me into a nasal mask? - yankees123 - 10-31-2021 April, are you referring to the Respironics under the nose mask? RE: Can somebody talk me into a nasal mask? - cathyf - 10-31-2021 I used a dreamwear for 2-1/2 years -- I think the F30 fits slightly better, as there seems to be a bit more cushion around the nose. I used an F10 for the first 1-1/2 years, then an Amara View for the next 2. The fit is a challenge on all of these masks, as the headgear is just too big. The problem with the N30i/P30i/Dreamwear nasal is that when I adjust the adjustable straps to be very small, the parts that aren't adjustable are out of proportion. I'm constantly having to rotate the nasal masks so that the air is pointed up my nose rather than just blowing into my upper lip. |
