I may need to try stretching it. I have to say, before CPAP there have been many mornings where I woke up feeling like someone did exactly that to my head! If there is, then sometimes, not always, you can get this "air hammer" effect because at the low pressure the airway begins to collapse, then the machine sees that and says "oh, I think I'll jack up the pressure sudden like and get this turned around. .......there, that worked.... Of course her mask is now floating somewhere above her eyeballs, but what the heck?" Thank you for this insight - I think this has been happening to me in the weeks since I got my new S9 AutoSet, and I wondered exactly what was happening. I might increase the minimum pressure (which is currently 4), and just try that out tonight. RE: AirFit P10 nasal mask fitting problems - Clementine - 08-22-2014 Well, I bought and used the lansinoh cream last night. It did seem to help somewhat, but I still had some mask "lift off" towards morning, a couple of times. Machine still says leaks are not bad; maybe I should just live with it. I just don't like to be awakened at times in the night as the pressure increases and my mask moves and I have to move it back. I had tried a large mask briefly some weeks ago --- but maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance. It was just kinda too big for my nose. How can it seal when the openings are bigger than my nose?? I will ask about trying the large again, though, since people are insistent that I try it and that it might work. Gotta keep an open mind with all of this . . . Clementine, that's precisely WHY it seals. The outer rim of the pillow, the widest part at the bottom of the cone, is meant to rest against the rim of your nares, not inside the nostril. If there's not enough overlap, even the tiniest shift of position can cause gaps and leaks. That's what was happening with me with the medium pillows. Small pillows only made it worse. RE: AirFit P10 nasal mask fitting problems - Clementine - 08-22-2014 okay -- will try it. Thank you, all, for your responses. RE: AirFit P10 nasal mask fitting problems - retired_guy - 08-22-2014 To add on, as I mentioned yesterday I went back to the medium size the night before because once in awhile that's what I do. It's how I keep diversity in my life. Anyhow last night around 4:00 am I gained consciousness and thought to myself: "Self, you're working too hard breathing though this mask. You're doing fine, but put the large one back on and see if it makes any difference..." So, without getting up or mussing my hair all that much, I changed back to the large. Sure enough there is a very noticeable improvement for me in inhale/exhale comfort, and at least a perceived improvement in air flow. And, since basically I have a few "breathing challenges," I'll take all of that I can get. So now I'm back on the large pillows. I am not found of the 4 and 20 blackbird setting that the docs and dme's so often do on new setups. I much prefer a closer range surrounding what your pressure needs to be to control the apneas. For instance, if you look at your results and see that most of the time you perk along just fine at say 12, then a nice range to me would be something like 9 to 15 to begin with. Then move in and out and up and down from there depending on the results after a few days. RE: AirFit P10 nasal mask fitting problems - NickDanger - 08-22-2014 Have you watched this video from ResMed? It is an Airfit P10 fitting guide. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gs4v1Lk3FyM RE: AirFit P10 nasal mask fitting problems - Simon M - 08-23-2014 (08-22-2014, 12:39 PM)retired_guy Wrote: Yes Simon I agree. I tried this, and I'm now between 5 and 15, and that seems to be working out very nicely indeed. I'm seeing the sleep specialist next week, so I'll take my SD card and see what's what. Thanks again, Retired Guy! (08-22-2014, 10:09 PM)NickDanger Wrote: Have you watched this video from ResMed? It is an Airfit P10 fitting guide. That's well worth watching, and I saw it when I got the mask. It's great that ResMed put out those videos - it's always easier to learn from seeing someone do something than from trying to discern what's going on in an instruction manual. RE: AirFit P10 nasal mask fitting problems - Clementine - 08-23-2014 Yes, I had seen the video, but it's worth watching again. Lansinoh is def helping . . . This morning, I was awakened by the high pressure .... it was up to 9/13, and there was a constant stream of air blowing out. Is this typical? Made me think I had another crack in the tube. I kept readjusting the mask and the leaks were around 2 and 3 on the machine , so there was some leakage, but I could not move it around enough to get a zero for leaks. Just this steady stream of air coming out. I am used to feeling the air come out when inhaling ... but not this constant stream. When I checked, I still had the smiley face for leaks for the night, so apparently it's not enough to cause a problem. My AHI was 7.2. Still waiting to get well below 5. I have a feeling I will need to have the pressure even higher. |
