RE: Please help with treatment review - Ratchick - 06-26-2021 Have you tried putting the chin strap on OVER the headgear strap, so you don't need to get a larger size? I must admit, I use that to my advantage to help keep the P10 headgear in place. Knightsbridge Suggestion - DaveL - 06-26-2021 That's a good suggestion. No I haven't. edit: I'll try that combination tonight Last night was a rough night. I woke up and realized I hadn't filled my humidifier tank. Did that. Had real trouble getting to sleep. Did sleep... I got leaks under control...but that's all. Treatment. Bah humbug. edit: I must learn. Don't brag about how well I'm doing. It comes back to bite me and then I don't do so well. Knightsbridge on over Nasal Mask - DaveL - 06-27-2021 Interesting! I put my ResMed N20 on. Put the Knightsbridge Dual Strap on. I had leakage, so took the KDS off. Adjusted the top straps tighter. (I had jets of air in my eyes and this solved it.) I'm not used to seeing the apap working so hard! Overall? I feel better today than yesterday. I'll do this for a while and see what happens. One day isn't enough. Thanks for the suggestion Ratchick. Much appreciated. RE: Please help with treatment review - DaveL - 06-28-2021 read the reviews for the ResMed F30i here and got all excited! I have one coming. It's not from my DME who charge a lot for masks...I hope it works out. I've never been able to wear a full face mask for more than an hour...claustrophobia. Yet this ffm has nothing that will make me claustrophobic. So I leapt in with my wallet and bought one. Fingers crossed....it's mine I bought it. Wearing a full face mask will be so much easier than my combination of nasal mask and home made pad, or nasal mask and Knightsbridge Dual Strap. I woke up last night mid way through the night. Took off my mask and KSD chinstrap. Did what I needed to do. Put the KSD aside; put on the N20 and the pad under my jaw. I only had 3 hours sleep done, and needed more sleep to be compliant. Full Face Mask Trial - DaveL - 06-29-2021 I've wanted to use a full face mask for a long time. I'm claustrophobic, and have never been able to keep a ffm on for more than a couple of hours. Found reviews for the F30i ResMed mask. Did two things. * Found a bargain, and ordered a mask Standard headgear/Large insert; it will take some time to come F30i/standard/Large * Contacted my DME supplier. Arranged for a loaner on trial. Standard headgear/medium insert is what they "loaned me" Went to bed. Frankly it was the worst night of the year * Thunderstorms; was up for a long time because my dog is deathly afraid of thunderstorms. IIRC I got up sometime after 2:00 and was up for a long time. * S10 "for her" -- I don't understand what the machine reported. Here are 3 screenshots. I've just woken up. I'm exhausted.... Positive note: I've never kept a full face mask on Question: When the new mask (standard frame/Large insert) comes in the mail should I open it? If so it's mine, and I can't return it. Question: Is this promising enough to keep the mask I've bought, but haven't received yet? RE: Please help with treatment review - SevereApnea - 06-29-2021 @DaveL I thought I loved the P30i but needed all the gear to go with it: chin strap didn't work, neck collar, mouth and alice bands over that to contain the mouth leaks. And eye masks to keep the air from leaking to my eyes. All that pressure affected my teeth after a while. Eventually bought the Knightsbridge but could not face the idea of using that as well, so that is unused, maybe one day... Loaned some Dreamwear FFM (Ok'ish) and Amara View and F&P and Resmed F30i. Initially thought I liked the DrW but I my now fully committed to the F30i. It suits my face, I can contain leaks and although I still need the SCC I have settled on this as my go-to default mask. I think the right mask finds you, rather than you finding the right mask. The only way you will know is to stick with a mask for fair amount of time. One night with a thunderstorm can freak anyone! That's why they let me loan each mask for 2 to 4 weeks at a time. It takes time, esp. if you have concerns about FFM to start with. Last week I swapped back to a Dreamwear FFM, just for fun, hated it, realized I am fully used to the Resmed F30i. I use the Standard headgear and can use both the W and SW with good results. Some posts do recommend switching masks from time to time, that's a different story. Masks are individual and if you are lucky enough to be able to loan a few that's great. I do wish I could get the P30i to work, I may try this again after a while. Enough rambling... I find the F30i liberating, nothing's perfect but we owe it to ourselves to find what works best for us. Hope you have success with this. RE: Please help with treatment review - DaveL - 06-29-2021 Thanks. I know one night doesn't make a test. The proper size of F30i is in the mail. Thanks to a link on Lanky Lefty's review...i downloaded the fit gauge. Wearing a ffm would be so much easier. I have a collection of chin straps. the Knightsbridge Dual Strap is the best. But while some nights it is perfect, some nights it's awful. Thanks for reading and commenting. It helps a lot. Feelings...bad seal with the f30i last night. Machine told me so. And I downloaded the SD card; confirmed it. Looks like mouth breathing to me? But I don't do well with OSCAR readouts yet. What an awful night - DaveL - 06-30-2021 [attachment=33312]I wore a loaner F30i for the beginning of the night's sleep. Awful--I woke up several times and my S10 was off. No discharge. I checked. There was no mask discharge. I have auto on/off turned on. I gave up. * took off the F30i * turned on lights * entered clinician mode to reset the S10 "for her" to nasal mask setting * got my N20 nasal mask; put it on. * put on my home-made under chin pad * went to sleep I am concerned. Why did the ResMed S10 "for her" shut down several times while wearing the full face mask? The loaner full face mask (thanks to my DME supplier) is the wrong size. It was arranged over the phone and it's not their fault. I confirmed that it's the wrong size by finding the ResMed fit gauge on line. I need a wider insert for the standard head gear. I feel hopeless trying this full face loaner mask. I feel hopeless, because I actually started this all by buying a F30i on line when I found it for a wonderful price. $189 Canadian. That's my mask I guess. I feel HOPELESS having my S10 shut down while I'm wearing a mask. I don't trust auto ON/OFF now. I'm encouraged that I was able to solve problems after waking up with no mask airflow, and able to return to sleep. I've included two screen shots. One for the full night including wear periods with both masks. One shows intervals of no flow. As if I have stopped breathing. I'm scared. Awful. - DaveL - 06-30-2021 I used the full face mask from start to approximately 50 minutes after midnight. My S10 "for her" was set to full face mask. Mask is a loaner F30i from my DME supplier. Arranged over the phone, it's a F30i with standard head gear and medium insert. (using a fit gauge downloaded from the internet after-the-fact I need a wider insert; not the DME supplier's fault) The S10 "for her" shut down several times. NO FLOW. I checked to see if we had a power outage. no. I have auto ON/OFF selected I truly want to find a full face mask that works for me. I selected this mask to purchase because there is no vision obstruction. I thought if there ever was a chance to use a full face mask this is it. (i'm claustrophobic.) My S10 "for her" worked perfectly with the N20 mask on; it did not shut off. There's something wrong with me. Do I stop breathing? Strange things going on. edit: oops. here's the screenshot for the full night's use that I deleted somehow when I was changing the second screenshot. Coping as best I can RE: Please help with treatment review - SevereApnea - 06-30-2021 Hi Dave Sorry to hear about your troubles. Definitely the latter part of your night after around 1 AM shows a great chart, 6+ hours of sleep! is good by any standards. From 23:31 to about 00:50 shows lots of leaks and variable respiratory parameters likely from the leaks. New Masks take a while to get used. Swapping settings and masks half-way through the night has always given me problems. The Fit gauges are rough and ready. Even when loaning masks I found I had to try different sizes. The gauges are not fool proof in my experience. I agree with you about the Auto ON/OFF, I never liked it, sometimes it was slow to "kick-in" other times not depending on how much of breath I took in. I MUCH prefer to have this OFF and just hit the Start/stop button when I am ready to sleep or ready to get up. Have you tried that or are you not happy with that? I did "like" it to start with because of rotator cuff injury and awkward shoulder movement to get to the start button, but if you have good mobility in your shoulders you could try that. Not sure why the machine shut off: maybe from some leaks you had in the beginning, others may be able to comment on that. About the F30i: Once I found the right position it works really well. The bit covering the nose/nostrils needs to inflate nicely. I find that having this a bit higher (upwards, towards the forehead) that you might initially think helps it "sit" better on my nose. You could try the Mask Fit function while lying down to see if the fit is good. I love the top connection for that very reason: after placing the mask over my head and hooking up the straps I take a deep breath, cover the top hole at the top connector with the flat of my hand and blow out: this gives a good assessment of leaks, and helps find the best position. Only then attach hose connector and hose, and off we go. It can be Very Frustrating to get used to new equipment. For me it took quite some time, so don't give up. Is your DME able to loan different size masks while you try them out? I think this mask has some promise based on your needs and think it is worth persisting. |
