RE: Motor Life Exceeded, at 21,900 hours Aircurve 10 Vauto - Sleeprider - 06-21-2023

I finally got approval for a new Vauto to be delivered next week. The old machine is around 23,400 hours. To do this I changed DMEs and now use Rotech. The CPAP representative is excellent and got me through the Medicare process without a new sleep study. It seemed like it would never happen but I hand-carried the form Rotech needed to my doctor appointment last week and made sure it got handled. That made all the difference. My doctor filled out the patient encounter and patient need and benefits from therapy report during our visit and it got done!

Is there a specific form or format to the patient encounter, patient needs, and benefits process?

I actually have the form required by Rotech scanned and have cropped the relevant part below without personal or prescriber info.  It only contains information on the machine and supplies being prescribed, and notes from the patient chart.  The notes is where the magic happens.  Outside of that, Medicare is covering 80% and my coinsurance the balance. I am just happy not to have to submit to another painful clinical sleep test or titration. My previous DME quit dispensing even supplies because in the RT's opinion I needed a sleep test. Complete B.S.

Many thanks. I will request a copy of my report at the end of next month.

Got mine about a month ago. Works just as well as the old one!

It has a 4GU modem. Not sure what the "U" means.

I just had the pleasure of unboxing a brand new Aircurve 10 Vauto with zero-hours on the clock. All therapy settings were preset, but I changed up the trigger and TiMax. The machine did not come with mask or tubing, but I have a new set to rotate in.  I'm relieved that I was able to get this first machine on Medicare without submitting to a sleep test or other hassles.  I have a 30 day compliance period and 13 month rental with this machine, so my current "motor life exceeded" Vauto  is going into retirement after cleaning, and I may consider a refurbish to replace the motor and reset hours.  I have another backup machine that will be idle until compliance is completed.

Too-happy-2 After helping many others, I finally had to go through the process myself.  Whew!

I just noticed the Motor Life Error and estimate that since 12/2016 I have logged about 22,000 hours on my AirSense 10. So, guess I am now in danger of sudden failure and am starting to seek out options.

I stopped using my modem years ago by keeping it on Airplane Mode. The data was not useful to me and, as a person who shuns wi-fi, felt better without the modem on.

As I now come current with product offerings, I see many who are unhappy they can no longer get a ResMed with a modem. There is also a hardy group who want to replace the old motor themselves and keep using the old AS10, for a whole host of reasons, even with the nag notice.

The message is pre-programmed and has nothing to do with the condition of the motor itself or the device's functionality. Essentially, it's a sales tool. If your device is older than five years, your insurance may pay for a new one.

If you can tolerate seeing the message and nothing else is wrong, keep using the device without worry.

I got a new card-to-cloud unit and had my old S10 cleaned, the modem disconnected, the motor replaced (zero hour reset), and everything recalibrated for less than the cost of a used machine with low hours.

Data is transmitted via cell phone, not wi-fi.

I just bought a AirCurve 10 with a 4G modem. The older machines used 3G, and cell phone towers discontinued 3G a few months ago.

The old motor still works perfectly fine. I replaced my entire machine and keep the old one as a back up.

I have an even older S9 VPAP Auto, which I believe uses the same motor, and it still works fine, too.

RE: Motor Life Exceeded, at 21,900 hours Aircurve 10 Vauto - dm_0001 - 10-08-2023

I have an Aircurve 10 vauto.  A few days ago it displayed the motor replacement message and stopped working.  No warning.  After a Google search I found this and other threads.  So I purchased the replacement motor from Amazon.  Same as Alibabba but a bit more expensive with faster shipping.  I replaced it last night and it turns on but displays the same message.

From what I read there seems to be firmware limit of 22k hours where the device stops working and there’s no way to reset this yourself.  it works for folks who are replacing a defective blower but not for those who reached the firmware limit.

Has anyone had the same experience?  Is there a solution or should I return the replacement blower?
