RE: Blockage during exhale - Uvula/Soft Palate - PaytonA - 07-19-2017 I do not know if I remember this correctly but one of our members that uses ASV says that every now and then his machine gets out of sync with his breath. If I remember correctly, he applies a large, forceful exhale to the machine and it seems to re-sync. Might be worth a try. I am not familiar with the adjustments available on the Philips ASV and so can not answer that question. We have people who do use the P-R ASV who can answer that question for you. Best Regards, PaytonA RE: Blockage during exhale - Uvula/Soft Palate - divercrazy50 - 07-20-2017 Thanks Payton. Last night I tried a little different option and hung my head off the top of the bed on a slight Decline and that seemed to help quite a bit. I am thinking the cervical collar pillow might be the way to go. I got about 3.5 hours of sleep, which is over an hour more than i have been getting and I feel awesome today. We'll see how long I go before I need a nap. RE: Blockage during exhale - Uvula/Soft Palate - ajack - 07-20-2017 Definately get a cervical collar, it really does help. what is the min epap pressure you are using on the ASV? With or without the collar, I would raise min epap till the obstruction goes on exhale. I need 13cm before it stops. I forget what it was with the collar, but it was less. I just chose in the end to run a higher min epap. RE: Blockage during exhale - Uvula/Soft Palate - divercrazy50 - 07-23-2017 My pressure is set at 25. I now have the collar and it seems to help. I am getting a solid 4 hours now and feel relatively good upon waking. RE: Blockage during exhale - Uvula/Soft Palate - PaytonA - 07-23-2017 divercrazy50, On your ASV, which pressure is set to 25? Are you running in ASV mode or CPAP mode? Best Regards, PaytonA RE: Blockage during exhale - Uvula/Soft Palate - ajack - 07-24-2017 I think divercrazy50 means his max pressure is 25? you would raise the epap or if auto mode, the minimum epap till the breathing out obstruction goes It would be really good if you start your own thread, here http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/images/focus/newthread.png post all the settings on your machine and if you post a sleepyhead chart it would even be better if you have manual mode ASV epap min PS max PS breath rate biflex rise time auto asv would be min epap max epap min PS max PS breath rate biflex rise time RE: Blockage during exhale - Uvula/Soft Palate - PaytonA - 07-24-2017 Would someone please tell us what pressure we are talking about. Not Guess; Tell RE: Blockage during exhale - Uvula/Soft Palate - ajack - 07-25-2017 for your s9 vpap auto, we are talking about raising the minimum epap. a manual bipap, we are talking about the epap, because there is only one epap setting. for cpap it's the fixed pressure and apap, we are talking about minimum pressure. RE: Blockage during exhale - Uvula/Soft Palate - Cornelia757 - 09-19-2017 Mike- Your question was a while ago, but I also have problems exhaling, mostly during the day. I was told that my soft palate was rising and blocking my exhale. I have to snuffle to open the airway. I was told they had never heard of this before and passed on to people to give me exercises for that. I cannot blow my nose except when I am bending over...Did you ever find a solution or find someone who knew what they were talking about and actually listened to you? I am located in the Northeast . Cornelia RE: Blockage during exhale - Uvula/Soft Palate - richb - 09-20-2017 Hi Cornelia757. Welcome to the Apnea Board. I am responding to your post because I was subscribed to this thread. It looks like you might be a candidate for soft palate surgery. The surgery is described in this link: http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1942134-overview You will need to see an ENT specialist. If you don't have a good ENT and surgical center nearby you should consider making an appointment at your nearest University Hospital where they will have specialists familiar with your condition and treatment. In the mean time sleep on your side or even face down (special pillow). Good luck and keep in touch. Rich |
