RE: BPAP Titration Sleep Study - HalfAsleep - 12-22-2017

I am recuperating from my sleep study. The tech had to wake me up at 6am so the Sleep Center could close at 7am because it had started to snow.

The sleep study wasn’t as anxiety provoking as last time. However, I was wired when I got there.

They only titrated BiPAP. No CPAP. They had me on a Respironics machine from hell. At 12/8 to start. It kept deciding when it was time for me to inhale, almost always when I had no inclination to inhale. Most of the time I couldn’t exhale. I couldn’t slow down, sigh, take shallow breaths, go longer between breaths.

I had the same tech as the last time. She was lovely. Got me a bed with a controller, window room, lights low in preparation for my arrival. I could bring as many pillows from home as I wanted. Even the linens were nicer than the first time.

That tech did happen to mention that she remembered me from last time (several months ago), because I had very complex sleep breathing characteristics (echoes of Sleeprider), shallow breathing, and very long apneas. Interesting she remembered these issues, but they’ve never been discussed with me by a physician/APRN.

Disappointing that they could not try BPAP with backup rate. I will be surprised to hear they got a successful titration, considering your comments.

In other matters, have you acquired a recording oximeter yet?

Now after that sleep study, you can take a nap.

Hope the PSG revealed your next step to progress & success.

I take it the Respironics doesn’t have a backup rate. The tech did tell me she doesn’t like Respironics...  This tech is very savvy. Too bad she’s a traveler.

She couldn’t give me info on the night. She said “it’s up to the doctor to say if I passed BiPAP.”

What would be the difference in experience between the Respironics BiPAP forcing an inhale and a machine with a back up rate?

I don’t have an oximeter yet, but I also haven’t found out exactly if the data is Mac compatible. (I don’t do Windows; I’ve owned a Mac since 1985).

Waaaah! Am I seeing what I'm seeing? My BiPAP titration study. What the heck do I do with this?

I might have to put these images in a couple of posts....

Note: my sidebar information is exactly correct.

I sleep 100% supine; both studies.

Aren't backup rates on ASV and ST, ST-A machines only? Or did I fail CPAP 101? I'm still getting a coffee. Oh and isn't an Autoset still a CPAP not BiPAP?
