Man, Walla Walla, you're full of insightful one-liners. You're probably right on this one too!
I have a tendency for my chin to collapse if I don't actively thwart it, but interesting possibility that I may have it happen around the same time every night.
FWIW, another nightly pattern...
I always choke 15 minutes or so into sleeping. Every time. It wakes me up, I take a bathroom break, and go right back to sleep. I've tried a couple of things to avoid that choke. 1. Using Listerine spray. It worked somewhat okay, but the alcohol content was bothering me; I don't do alcohol. 2. Cough drops! Certain cough drops anesthetize the throat. I take one of these before bed, and voilà, no more choking. They help great with nausea too!
I'm guessing that choke is an apnea event, so no doubt the APAP is doing its part on the fix.

HalfAsleep. You are having unacceptable results in spite of incredible effort. Maybe it's time to fire your therapist and try a physician/treatment team that will help you rather than blame you for excess leaks.

Points well taken, SleepRider. I can see you're looking out for me, and I appreciate it.
I was getting such extreme leaks that it was hard to evaluate treatment or events (over 24L for over 50% of the night). I was frustrated, waking up constantly, and sleepless. I am doing much better than I was, thanks to my little leak vs. pressure experiment, not at all frustrated, and a lot more confident, but may well not be treated with the current machine.
I mentioned the lengthy events to my sleep specialist, and she was quite startled, especially after I pointed out that I had an exceptionally long one during my sleep study and no one said anything about it.
The Sleep Center isn't blaming me for the leaks: they're trying to help me sort it out. They did help me figure out a mask that doesn't leak so much. I wouldn't have thought to try that model. I was very okay with our one-month meeting. I have a follow-up in December.
I am taking Spy Car's lead that this process moves slowly....

Yo, now I'm looking at a piece of my sleep study (diagnostic, no titration), and I didn't have any full-fledged obstructive apneas, only hypopneas, mixeds, and centrals, if I'm reading that right.
And there's the 77.2 second event. That's nuts. Even the mean duration of hypopneas seems on the nutty side. 50% (61!) of them were over 31 seconds?

SleepRider, could those hypopneas have been central in origin?
Does a sleep study evaluate for OSA vs. CA in a hypopnea? So what this doc is counting as obstructive hypopneas (and thereby the diagnosis of OSA) may actually be central in origin?
There was a whole lot cuckoo about this sleep study, but maybe even this much data should have predicted a different treatment.

Update
Now that my leaks are under control, I am getting even scarier results. I am not at full prescribed pressure (although 1-2 cm higher than I averaged when I was very leaky). My prescribed pressure is 5-15.
This is the longest unbroken night's sleep I've had for months.

I would venture to bet quite a few of those OA's are centrals. Many are on low/0 flow limits. Often with my events it's hard to tell. There are several 40+ second events.
Several of these leaks were me re-situating the mask.
I will increase the pressure by 1 in the next day or so, all the while working on leakage.

I'm not sure what you see, but this image looks like a colorful postage stamp. You need to use the "huge thumbnail" or original image link. In spite of it's small size, I can see the flow limits from a mile away...enjoy your new bilevel you'll be needing soon.
