That is after I got over the newbie-ness of any PAP therapy AND the bad habit of mask removal at the 2-3 hour mark. Both the CPAP and BiPAP were just plain wrong for me. I barely used either compared to the ASV. Machine and I were not on same page until now with the ASV.Do

Hey Dave, do you mind if I ask how they finally resolved to let you do ASV. Did you do an in-house sleep study? Did you need to use different machines? I'm being asked to split the night APAP/ASV, which seems odd with a year of actual data on APAP (but what doI know?).

I guessing that I'm a borderline case and cost containment is an issue.

While I was trying to use the DreamStation BiPAP, I reported to the pulmonary doctor's office that I was feeling worse while using the BiPAP. That meant I was feeling more tired, getting more sleep apnea morning headaches, and feeling in general much worse than if I didn't use it. I posted charts here at AB and CA was shown as a high count. I called to get an urgent need appointment with the same doc's office. I was seen the next morning by what some places call the P.A. During the conversation, I asked about CA count and shouldn't I be on ASV. She agreed and consulted with another doctor "on call" within the office. They agreed and passed notes onto the regular doc that handles my case. They also did pressure script adjustments for a temporary fix, but that ended up not helping either.

So, the above mentioned urgent need appointment triggered a new appointment with regular pulmonary doc where he began the process for a new PSG in their sleep lab. It was handled by a specialist sleep lab tech for ASV machines. I went in the same as the 2 previous PSG's to sleep overnight there. The tech did change masks on me 3 times overnight as well. Otherwise, to me the sleep study was the same as the other 2 studies.

FWIW thumbnail sketch of path:
summer 2015 was on CPAP, failed compliance due to exhale problem of setting of 18, return blower to DME
no xPAP therapy 2016 as I was getting bariatric sleeve for weight loss
began BiPAP 3/17 and failed after about 1 month due to mixed apnea, CA caused by BiPAP use, returned blower to DME
late in 8/17 began ASV use after 3rd PSG at pulmonary doc/sleep lab building

Hope that answers and or clarifies what you're looking for.

Dave

PS in getting ASV I had to have heart Echo test and pulmonary doc wanted cardiac doc to evaluate heart health in general in part due to high BP, since I "passed" echo test, ASV was OK'ed

Crazy-bad night on APAP. Didn't sleep the first 5 and a half hours or so. Went back to bed and had 40 AHI for the last two hours with about 60% CAs.

I'm exhausted. Emailing with doctor.
