Self adjusting the pressure - Wozzlegummich - 07-09-2015

I've been on CPAP for 2 mths now. I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea with an AHI of 49.1. Since using my RESMED Airsense 10 auto set at a prescribed pressure of 13 my events per hour drop to 0.3. No problems with that result.

I have the ramp set to 45 mins starting at a pressure of 6 but find that when it hits 13 I wake and find it very oppressive if not claustrophobic. I have even ripped of the mask in my sleep!!

If I dial back the pressure over some days using my events per hour as an indication of where to stop reducing is there other data I need to factor in?

I'm using Sleepyhead and Rescan via a wireless SD card and the MYAIR website to keep track of things.

I feel the best thing you can do is to put your machine in the Auto CPAP mode and use a pressure range of say 9 to 15. Then watch your data on Sleepyhead for a couple weeks to determine where your 90% pressure is at most of the time. Then adjust your minimum starting pressure just under your 90% pressure and set your max setting according to how high your pressure rises on the pressure graphs.

You can continue to use ramp or not, but if you do, set it to start at 6 for 20 minutes.

I had the same issue at 14. My regular doc moved the max setting from 15 back to 11 based on remote data. Whenever I can actually talk with my doctor, I am going to discuss the data with her and have her consider a start pressure of 7 and a max of 13 or 13.5. My ramp time is currently set to 15 minutes. I would also like that reduced.

Keep us posted on your results.

I suggest you turn the ramp off and set the machine in auto mode at a range of 6-13. That way it will start at 6 and go up to 13 only if needed.

The thing is, if you do this you need to monitor your data on a computer to make sure the machine is doing what it's supposed to be doing.

I also suggest you set the EPR to 3 as it will make the machine more comfortable to use.
