Hi all, I've just got a new mask - one that actually fits me properly (supplier originally fitted me with a "standard: size mask and I knew no different until I went to buy a new one - tried a petite and fits perfectly) anyways I digress, I have worn my new mask for 2 nights and have experienced really bad rainout. The machine is not in a different position. Just out of curiosity - where do people have their machines? on the floor? on a bedside cabinet? I was told to prevent rainout it should be lower than your head when u lay down, so mine is on the floor.

Hi again weeble, Where do you have your humidity set? I would suggest that you turn your humidity back a notch and see if the rainout disappears. The heated hose should help with that but, if you have your humidity set too high, you still may have problems with rainout. Keep checking back as I'm sure there will be more suggestions to help you. BTW, it's good that you finally found a mask that fits you, that is SO important toward your CPAP therapy as you probably know by now.

Hi, Weeble. Sorry to hear of your new rainout problem. I've been using my S9 on the floor next to the bed and have not noticed any rainout. Since it's been warm (hot) up here lately, I am not turning on the heat on the humidifier, just letting the air blow over the water. But even when I was turning on the humidifier heat, I had no rainout troubles.

Is the rainout in the hose or the mask?
I keep my machine on a pretend side table (its a hanging bookshelf pretending to be a side table) and it is slightly higher than my head. This winter I used the climateline hose and had no rainout except in the mask itself.
Try turning the humidifier down a notch or two.

I believe the settings for the resmed elite S9 are different to those in the states. I initially had problems with the humidifier as it was originally set to 26, I turned it up to 28-29 then turned it down to 23 and that seemed to work.....I've kept it at 23 ever since...so may have to turn it down another notch and go from there...and yeah getting the right fitting mask is great. I had to have mine on so tight that it still leaked and left horrendous marks on my face (even with covers over the straps).....if there was another specialist in my area I would go to them! My ones are absolute shockers!

Quite often, tightening a mask can make it leak more.

LOL pretend side table.....I always use the climateline hose...I really don't know if it's the mask or the hose all I know is I'm woken to a nasty cold feeling by my nose! Not nice in the middle of winter lololol

Because this fits me perfectly, I actually had the luxury of not having to have the mask very tight at all (first time ever....no marks on my face), so I don't think that is the problem

Hey Weeble,
I have my machine in a drawer of my nightstand so it is about a foot or so lower than me. However, I have a hook I fashioned out os a wire hanger on the headboard and I have a rubber band that holds the hose up to the band. I also have a cover on my hose, but I understand you can't do that with the climate line. Probably a fire hazard or something! I think having the hose go from lower than me to way above me could be a double edged sword for someone experiencing rainout though. The condensation before the highest point would run back to the machine, but anything after the highest point, well...better learn to swim! Fortunately I have not had a rainout problem, but I keep my humidifier on 2 (Respironics is 1-3, I split the difference!). Then again it is summer here and I have not had this machine through a winter yet. Of course raising the temp in the room may help as well, but I hate to pay extra to the greedy b@#%$^##@ that provide our gas and electric to heat or cool the house!

Haha I hear you regarding raising them temp! My problem is even in winter I over heat in bed so having the room temp raised would be a nightmare for me.....I'm sure it will get sorted....and if it doesn't I shall just have to get used to the cold "plops"
