Periodic Breathing - Sleepyv - 04-26-2017 What is periodic breathing? Every once in a while I see that on my Bipap and don't know what it means. It usually is 1-3% when it happens. For those of us without other significant problems it is nothing more than an oscillating breathing pattern that may or may not include apnea or hypopnea. So it can run the whole range between Cheyne Stokes which is a central apnea issue associated with congestive hearth failure, and obstructive periodic apnea like Beej showed (probably physical obstruction like with chin tucking and cutting off airway), and something as simple as this, which is really nothing at all.
