Climateline heated hose smells? - skylark - 10-01-2017

I just got my new heated hose for my Autoset and noticed the air coming through it smelled musty all night. Has anyone experienced this? Should I send it back?

Yes...I started with the same machine (for her version) on Friday. I did not smell the odor through the mask, but when I took the mask off, the room was filled with an acrid, burning plastic smell. I switched to an unheated hose last night, and did not experience it. I washed the heated hose yesterday and plan to try it again tonight!

Not a burning smell. More musty like it's been in an old basement.

I believe it was sleeprider who told me that some people wash their hoses and then rinse them with lemon water? The acidity of the lemon might really help, and lemon is not an unpleasant smell if you don't quite rinse it well enough with clean water after the lemon water rinse Smile

Where did you get it from? (is it a reputable dealer?)

My new heated hose (AirCurve) did not have any smells. You are the best judge of what the smell is like. If it smelled musty to me, I'd be wondering what storage conditions it had been subjected to.

I would not expect a new hose to smell musty. Was it in a sealed package? Resmed ships the new hoses in clear plastic wrap. I can't think of any reason you should accept an opened package or just a hose. A new one sometimes has a new plastic smell, not musty.

That is the packaging it came in.

I will give it a good washing and see if that helps.

Thanks, all!

I've only been at this about a month, but I almost always smell a musty type smell immediately after taking the mask off.

Even if taken out of a bag brand spankin' new, ALWAYS wash new gear. You can use a simple soap solution or a vinegar/water solution. Rinse rinse rinse. Let air dry.

Wash your hose, mask, and humidifier and let air dry. When dry, sniff each bit. Any smells? Hook it all up and turn on. Smells? If so, exchange each part one at a time and test.

Look around where you have the CPAP sitting. Anything sitting around that is stinking up your machine?

I had no odor with the regular hose - also brand new. The machine is sitting on a table with nothing else but a lamp. So, I don't think it is anything other than the new hose.
