I need advice - Bompa - 10-10-2012 I have never had a cold for years and never one while ion CPAP. My head is stuffed up and hard to breath through my nose. How do you handle this problem? Do you not use your machines during this time? I have a prescribed nasal spray that I use daily, which isn't doing much good right now. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks All I forgot to mention that I also do nasal irrigation on a regular basis. RE: I need advices, - big_dave - 10-10-2012 I have had chronic sinus trouble all my life. I've found nasal irrigation with a neti pot helpful. (Some people use saline sprays.) Occasionally, congestion does not allow me to irrigate my sinuses, so I use my CPAP machine for half an hour while awake, setting it to a higher pressure to break through the congestion. Then, I can use the neti pot. I try to remember to turn the pressure back down when I'm done. Otherwise it compromises my sleep quality and my stats. RE: I need advice - PaulaO2 - 10-10-2012 For me, the CPAP moves the congestion out of the way. I use a nasal rinse (I use the squeeze bottle vs the neti pot) just before bed then again when I get up. Sleep is important when sick so try to use the CPAP and see how you do. It might be a little difficult at first, especially if you use the ramp feature. And in the morning, you may hack up some lovely, gross stuff. RE: I need advice - zonk - 10-10-2012 I have not used nasal strips but said can improve nasal congestion symptoms and breathing would like to hear any feedback from people who tried them How To Apply Breathe Right Nasal Strips http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K67ycbo8giw How to Make Your Own Breathe Right Strip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Do6jV6NhDug RE: I need advice - archangle - 10-11-2012 Strangely enough, I don't think I've ever been too congested to use my nasal mask. The CPAP and sleeping in the recliner does seem to keep my nose open. I have a few full face masks, but I'm not sure I'd be able to sleep with one. RE: I need advice - Sleepster - 10-11-2012 NeilMed sinus rinse is what you need. You can buy this kit in any drug store. It works better than a netti pot, in my opinion, because it flushes the mucous out under pressure. It's gross at first, but once you get used to it it's wonderful. I use mine whenever I have a cold or congestion. I had the flu a few weeks back and never missed a night of CPAP therapy. In fact, the CPAP machine helps me keep my sinuses open. RE: I need advice - Bompa - 10-11-2012 Thanks everybody the advice was all good stuff. The worst is over now and I'm on the road to recovery. In used the NeliMed squeeze bottle, had a hot bath with Eucalyptus oil, took some tylenol, turned my pressure up a bit and fell asleep. Slept for almost 10 hours and sweat all the bad out of me. Hard to kepp a good man down....right? Thanks again RE: I need advice - SuperSleeper - 10-11-2012 Quote:The latest survey shows that Love your signature, Bompa. |
