Nose itch with FFM: please solve my madness - HalfAsleep - 12-28-2017

Seriously? Yep. I get nose itch. With my FFM on. In the middle of the night. Then I have to debate about whether it'll go away all by itself. And because I'm debating, it gets worse. Then I try to sneak my fingers into the mask, which is always a no-go since the whole point of leakless nirvana is to NOT have cracks and chasms big enough to thread a finger (let alone two, which it seems is the bare minimum needed to resolve this aggravating problem) under the mask... And then, to discover (AGAIN since you already discovered this the last 5 nights in a row) that your fingers won't reach the itchy spot, no matter how much you tug your upper lip to touch base with the offending nostril.

Itch magnifies itself, by definition. You are now desperate. You throw the mask off. Scratch, scratch, scratch.... You remember you aren't supposed to forget something.... And if you're lucky, you'll put two and two together and plop your mask back on lickety split, before you fall back to sleep with it off, leaving SleepyHead vacant in the am.

And then there's the problem of the mask not exactly plopping on; as we all know, this takes some finesse and savvy, even after being an old-timer-3-month xPAPer and already one tenth up the xPAP learning curve.

In short, does anyone have a preventative technique for nose itch? This is surely a night time drama that doesn't need to happen? And no, the P10 (a go-to for many folks addressing nostril dilemmas) is not an option. IIRC, that was itch central, and then the nostril thingies would come flying out if I so much as touched the craven itch spot, and then the headgear would swivel, and...and...and...

Nothing I know would be preventative. I've heard a person say they used a crochet hook, you don't want something sharp when you are half asleep. I just take a bottom strap off and have a scratch.

I'm trying a FFM for the first time and can relate. The itch never goes away on its own. I've had some luck with applying cortizone 10 to my nose before going to sleep.

One tip; After washing the FFM, use a lint free cloth to dry it. Murphy's Law - Any piece of lint will be attracted to your nose.

What ever helps, till you get use to cpap and nightly cortisone treatment will help the itch. As you would know there are side effects to long term use of the cream, so it's not a forever thing.

I suffer the same. Just have to go after it.

I think maybe I'll try out a liberal swathing of Lansinoh lanolin which I no longer have to swaddle my P10 irritated nose in. I'll let you all know the results.   Eat-popcorn

Report: Putting a dab of Lansinoh lanolin on my nostrils—it's very thick—eliminated the mid-night itchies. Yippie!  Dancing
