ResMed AirSense 10 filter cover / door design flaw and breakage - PaulKTF - 03-07-2018

Does anyone else think that the cover / door to the ResMed AirSense 10 air intake (the little cover that you open and put the filter on) sucks? It has a terrible design flaw where it only has a small piece of plastic to slide into a hole to act as the hinge, and that small piece of plastic is pretty easily breakable. ResMed does have a replacement part available thru your DME, so you aren't out of luck when it breaks, but still... If they'd made the "male piece" that slides in out of metal instead of plastic it would be a lot more durable.

Haven't had a problem in three years. Never really thought about it.

I just got my AirSense 10 a couple of weeks ago.

Looking more closely at the filter door hinge, yes I would call the hinge pins rather fragile looking.

But how often do you open that door?  I changed my filter at 15 days, but I could not see even a hint of any clogging.  I will probably change to switching that out every month.  So, for me (using a 5 year life for the machine), I will need to open and close the filter access door 12 times a year for a total of 60 times.

I think those little plastic pins are going to be durable enough to handle that.

There is no need to pick up the machine and juggle it while changing filters, so I don't see how the door would come under much stress.

A pin on the door of mine broke off a few weeks ago. I can still make it work, but it kind of pisses me off. I did an online search for a replacement door, and they can be had for about $10.00 or so, + shipping.

I even posted about it on this forum, to see any any others had an issue with the door. I just figured that I was the only fumble fingers here.  Dont-know

And yes, I was aware from the start, that the air filter door was fragile and cheezy. Even being aware and cautious, a pin still broke off.  Annoyed-and-disappointed

I did a quick, brief search and found this:

I've thought that, so I'm gentle when I open it.

But I'm moreso concerned that the filter isn't very fine. I wonder how much it actually filters.

I'd think that it would keep out dust bunnys, but not much else.

I spray just a bit of my wife's hairspray on my filters. That gives um just a touch of being tacky and they grab the micro-fine stuff a lot better.

I just called my local DME supplier, the one who I got the machine from, and they told me to bring in the old air filter cover (door) and they would give me a new one.......under warranty.  Smile

Back home now and the new air filter cover (door) is back on and works great. Gonna see if I can make this one last a lot longer.

Next time I get around to changing my filter, I'll take a pic and show it to you. Too-funny

LOL Okay. Great!!!!  As a DreamStation person, I'd love to see what the ResMed filter looks like when it's dirty!

I use my ResMed for travel only. I end up changing the filter when it smells bad (thanks to the casinos and beach locations), and haven't seen the ResMed filter look any different.

I'm still using the original filter that came in my machine when I picked it up in Sept. of 2018.

For a small filter, it's quite durable. It takes me less than a minute to clean it and pat it dry with a paper towel. Easily reusable, no matter what others might think or say.  Bigwink
