There was a bang then loud hissing! - Sleep2Snore - 04-23-2018

I nearly had an accident and a brown trouser (pants) moment last night, or should I say this morning.
I was sound asleep dreaming of er I better not say.  Anyway, there was a loud "bang" then a loud hissing noise, I nearly had a heart attack!
Turned out the hose blew off the Nasal Pillows and the hose shot of and hit the table the machine sits on.  I didn't think a pressure of 13 could have such a devastating affect on my well being!
After my heart slowed down a bit, I hit the off button (It is on smart start, I thought they were supposed to stop by themselves) and I had a quick look around in the dark.  Noticed breathing had got a bit funny and there was little weight on my head, so I looked around and saw the hose had departed form the nasal pillows.
I reached down and plugged it into the hose for the pillows only to find it was so loose it wouldn't stay in!
I don't know how it stayed in as loose as it was or how it came to be so loose?
Anyway, some tape round the the plug on the mask and tape round the rubber connection held, so I managed to get a bit of sleep again.
I say a bit of sleep as I was lying awake waiting for the bang when it blew off again.
Strange that the other half never even moved throughout the whole event.
It sounded like a high pressure hose exploding.  Not good for my poor old heart sudden noises like that during the night.   Too-funny

Dang! That sounds extremely frightening! Do you have a spare hose?

Wow, what a great way to add excitement to your sleep experience. Unfortunately someone called something else the Big Bang theory, so we can't use that. Glad the hose didn't take an eye out.

PS you probably want a new hose. Eat-popcorn Coffee

No Hydrangea, it is held in place by tape (electrical type) so it will hold for a week or so.
The loose end is now at the machine end so even if it does blow off (which I don't think it will) it will not be going bang right beside my head.
I will phone and get a new one sent out and keep this one as a spare.
It will take a few days for it to arrive, even though I am only 8 miles away.
If I just turn up I will not be seen, so no point in going.
Though if the machine goes they will ask you to come in in the afternoon (if they have a spare machine) so they can replace it.

Dave, I have the hose going up the side of my face, so the hose is at the back of my head.
If it is going down the front of my as it is designed to I knock it off every time.
I am used to the hose going straight over my head, so when I got these and I kept knocking them off my nose during the night I used a tie wrap to tie the hose to one side.  However, as I found it is very noisy when the hoses part company.
I emailed ResMed and asked them why they didn't have an option for the hose to go over the head, they said they would pass it on to the design department.  I wait to see if it ever happens!
It certainly woke me up, funny though, nothing hit me at all, that is why it took me a moment or two to work out what had happened. Too-funny

Jokes aside, glad you're not hurt.

You'd get my vote for design assist if I worked at ResMed. Sounds like a good idea you've got.

It doesn't sound like a very good hose to keep as a spare.

$20-25 on Amazon could have you a new hose by tomorrow.

I asked them to think about a few things, but do they listen?
Doubt it very much.

It is very easy for you to have an option for Nasal pillows to have the hose go over the head as well as down.
It just needs a bit of design in the headgear.
I told them I was going to alter my headgear as soon as the warranty was out.
I got a reply showing a bit of interest of what i was going to do, I think they were just wanting to see if someone that doesn't know about designing sleep equipment might actually do it.
It would save them a lot of time eh!   Rolleyes

We ended up in Mexico a couple of years ago only to find my wife had forgotten her CPAP hose back in Canada. We managed to find some corrugated plastic electrical conduit of about the right size at a hardware store. Also got some black electrical tape to make the connections. It unfortunately did not last the night. The black tape was the weak point. The next day we located some "ducto tape". It was the ticket, and lasted the full two weeks of our stay.

If the tape comes into contact with moisture directly it will not hold long.
As I had it over the top of plastic, it never came in contact with moisture.
I still carry it with me just in case.

I still have not ordered a hose!  Better do it tomorrow, bets I forget again.

The only thing that is holding it is the tape outside the rubber connection, it is just holding it due to the pressure the tape is putting on the hose connection.
