Understanding my CPAP Results - monkstah - 09-13-2018

Hi all,

I was just now able to get my CPAP data into both ResScan and Sleepyhead and I have the results over a 6 month timeframe. I have a ResMed Airsense 10 and use a full mask. Based on my limited understanding to me it looks like I really have none or very very minor apnea issues.

Here are the #s and hopefully you can help :

ResScan -
Apnea Index - 0.1
Hypopnea Index - 0.2
AHI - 0.3

Leak (Median) - 12.0
Pressure (Median) - 8.2

Sleepyhead -
AHI - .5
Obstructive Index - .2
Hypopnea Index - 0.17
Clear Airway Index - 0.09
RERA Index - 0.01

Leak Rate (Median) - 16.57
Average Pressure - 8.39

Am I correct in assuming that if I do have Apnea it is extremely minor?

It would be more accurate to say that it is Well Treated... If you stop using your machine, the apneas will return to what they were before you started treatment.

Thanks. That is what I was thinking as well. Either I have minor Apnea which would be bad without CPAP or the CPAP is doing its job very wel.

you can't tell how many apnea you might have had without cpap from the machine data, which tells you how many events you had with treatment. if you had an at home or in lab sleep study (diagnostic, not titration), you can find your untreated ahi in the results. if you don't have the results, ask your sleep doc for copies.

Hi monkstah,
Did you have a sleep study done?  If you did, what was your total AHI number?  This would tell you how severe or mild your Apnea is.

Once your are using a Cpap machine, you are considered to be “treated.”  If you would stop using your machine, you would revert back to the same issues you had prior.

In other words, using a Cpap doesn’t “cure” your Apnea, but only treats it.

Example: My sleep study showed an AHI of 37 events per hour.  Now I experience on average an AHI of 1.5.  I am well treated, but not cured.

Your posted results shows that your Cpap therapy is working.
