My surge protector has saved my machine.
I was in a rural hotel during a huge thunder storm. Lost power. When the power came back on, the room tv was dead. My surge protector was plugged into the same 120 volt outlet.
I use a surge protector with an extension cord. (sometimes I need the extension cord just as much!)

This was somewhere near Cape Cod
I was on vacation.
If my machine died I wouldn't have been able to replace it
I would have had to cancel my vacation and return home. Toronto.
Thank heaven for surge protectors. And extension cords.

We lost a fancy sewing machine due to a surge a few years ago... expensive repair!
What are you folks using for smallish surge protector suitable for C-PAP travel?

I went to a computer store and bought what they had. My surge protector has a 6 foot chord attached. That's been long enough.
It wasn't costly. $20?
I'm reluctant to use a separate extension cord. Since I use it travelling, it's one more thing to leave behind. My routine is to unplug from the electrical outlet with the machine off. Pack each item as soon as I touch it. The extension cord/surge protector goes in my rolling suitcase. The ResMed brick and cord go in my ResMed bag. Humidifier (dry...no water!), then machine. Hose. Mask. Spare Mask is with me. ChinStrap or whatever goes in the bag too. (because I sometimes mouth-breath, I need this.) ResMed bag goes to the door. I don't dare leave it behind.
Before I leave the room I check all this again.
When I travel in the US as a Canadian I'm at risk. If I needed a new machine or even a mask I wouldn't be able to get them...suppliers need prescriptions.
If someone has better experience than I I would love to hear it!

The receiver/outlets are well spaced, leaving space for my strange iPhone adapters that are too large!

Dave, you can find it at many retailers, online and brick&mortar. Just ask for CyberPower CSB806.
I choose that one for it's wide outlet spacing, and simply because provides really good surge protection (something like 1600 Joules), plus it also shields from RFI/EMI coming through the power wires.

Just remember to REPLACE that surge protector. Once a surge protector takes a hit like that (especially the consumer-grade ones), they are very likely to fail the second time they're needed. They DO NOT last forever and can only take a protect you a limited number of times - sometimes only once if the surge was strong enough.

That is 100% correct. Also applies to most professional grade surge protectors.
Fortunately, that one has an indicator that is illuminated when the surge protection feature is working properly. Manufacturer's instructions are to replace the unit when that light is off because the surge protector’s AC line is no longer protected from surges.
