When is your machine paid for? - Mark Sadler - 10-12-2018

Hi everyone 
Probably been discussed before, but how long before you can sell your machine that you got through insurance?

It depends on your insurance company, but you usually own your machine after 13 months. I waited until 15 months passed and asked the DME for a bill of sale showing that I owned the machine. They wanted to know why I wanted a bill of sale and I explained it was for custom's purposes -- no further explanation was necessary. I told them it could be in the form of a letter or simply an invoice showing a zero balance and a paid-in-full designation. I received the letter. Medicare paid for the machine through my DME, at the time, Apria.

I would consider keeping your present machine as a backup or as a travel companion.

Apria DME - United Healthcare Medicare Advantage PPO = 10 months.  Check with your medical insurance.

You have to confirm with your insurance company. Some members were shocked to find out that they NEVER owned their machine. It was always a rental. In other cases, the insurance company actually owned the machine!

My part was 20 percent or something like that.

Thank you for this question. I've often wondered about it myself. I fear my insurance may treat my machine as a rental. I'll have to call to see.
Does anyone else have problems with the nag messages (cellphone calls) when you fail to meet your goals (and compliance)? lol, that's one of the main reasons I hope I will actually own my machine so I can be done with those calls Big Grin

You can decline to receive those calls.  compliance is basically over, once you satisfy 21 of 30 days with greater than 4 hours of use.
