Newbie Asks For Suggestions - kentompkins3 - 11-22-2018

I’ve had my Dreamstation Auto BiPAP for two months and only recently have found Sleepyhead and this site. My mask is the Resmed Airfit F30. I am adjusting to all of this slowly; I still wake a good deal, have dry mouth and ill-fitting mask but I'm learning.

I want to take advantage of the group’s expertise so I will attempt to attach a very recent set of statistics from Sleepyhead.

My thanks for whatever suggestions you can provide.

Your obstructive events are happening in clusters. This usually is a sign of a positional issue. Most likely your dropping your chin down during sleep and cutting of your wind pipe. Many people use a soft cervical collar to prevent this from happening. They run about $10.00 or so and can be found at a drug store or online.

Here's a link for some of the other issues beginners come across. http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.php?title=Tips_for_new_CPAP_users

I agree with Walla about the positional apnea being responsible for most of the OA. I think it would help to see a zoomed in view (about 2-minute segment) to see what is happening to respiratory flow. I suspect quite a bit of flow limitation, and think you might benefit from higher pressure support to help with that and reduce hypopnea. You have quite a bit of RERA and the machine is incorrectly measuring exhale longer than inhale. That may reflect the flow limitation, or poor timing on BiFlex. I would avoid a BiFlex setting higher than 1.

At this point I thi k PS at 4 and reduce BiFlex to 1, may be helpful.

I agree with Walla Walla. I had a similar issue and the soft cervical collar resolved it. The OTC collar at Amazon comes in several heights and neck sizes.
