Travel cases for Dreamstation? - KSMatthew - 02-20-2019

Every time I travel I tell myself I need a better case.

I use the case that came with my Dreamstation - softsided, and not very well designed.

I saw this on the Philips website as an alternative:
https://www.usa.philips.com/healthcare/product/HC1120135/dreamstation-travel-case-pap-retail-accessory

but they go for about $150 USD.

I also saw this:
https://www.usa.philips.com/healthcare/product/HC1114784/pap-travel-briefcase

but it's more of a full sized briefcase - I'm not sure if I'd have problems explaining that it isn't really a carry-on since it's designed to actually BE a carry-on.

The case I have has a lot room inside.  I don't have a humidifier, so things end up sliding around inside.  I add some padding to keep the CPAP from being banged around if I bump a corner while carrying it, but there has be a better way.

Anyone else come up with something that works better, and doesn't cost a lot, maybe <$50-$60 USD?

I just got my Dreamstation, though mine has the humidifier, and wasn't overly impressed with the case it came with, though I don't travel much, thankfully. Have you looked at the something like the Pelican hard cases? If I'm picturing the size of the unit without the humidifier correctly you wouldn't even need something very large I'd think.

I did start looking at the Pelican cases this afternoon.  Definitely bulletproof, I'll have to see if they have any models that might be easier to carry over-the-shoulder like a softsided bag.

Alot of their hard cases have a space for either a lock, or zip ties, to hold the case closed, it might be possible to attach a shoulder strap to those, though that would complicate opening it in a hurry. A pair of carabiner clips and a shoulder strap for example.

I would look at soft camera bags they have loads of options and movable padding. Resmed machines come with their own custom designed soft padded bag so don’t have this challenge so I have not looked any further

Due to DreamStation's ridiculous "travel" case, I purchased a ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset to travel with. I suppose that's an expensive fix. But I also don't like how much space the DreamStation takes on a hotel nightstand. So I solved both those problems!

And I use my DreamStation at home.

It's my favorite carring case.

Carrying bag for  Remstar M SERIES Is perfect for traveling with the Dreamstation, small, easy to transport and as I don't use the hot hose it has added a smaller 60W Power Supply. It is necessary to insert a 20k ohm resistor between the central pin and ground of the power connector, so that the Dreamstation recognizes it as adequate. It works and the 90 W Power Supply is not necessary, it is too big to transport.

I can also fit the iPhone's power supply and cables.

It is from the old Respironics M Series, there is on Ebay from 18,00

My Dreamstation (stock) bag was on the floor in front of my airline middle seat, then my neighbor decided to go to the bathroom... stepping over the bag!
No harm done, but I will not do that again, even though the bag fits great in that spot...
I will also look for a better case, preferably one with a handle in addition to the shoulder strap.

Good idea.  I have an old M-Series bag in my closet.  I forgot about it, I'll see if everything fits.  I won't mess with modifying power supplies, though.

Thanks, this might do what I need.

I just tested this 65W medical category power supply of 3 X 2 X 1 Inches, on my Dreamstation with the moisture heater in position 3, only slightly warms the radiator of the power supply, magnificent.

I'm designing the casing to print in 3D. I'll publish it in Thingiverse to share along with a mounting tutorial and instructions to put the cables and the 20 K ohm resistor between the central pin and the Positive pole.
