Cleaning - Larry12 - 03-26-2019

My doctor told me about this site so here  I am I have been a CPAP user now for about 10 years with mixed results at times I stop using the humidifier because it was such a hassle. So my doctor and I talked about the cleaning system they have for the CPAP machines.  My reply was I have heard that it eats the seals in the machine I cannot afford that kind BS and my machine to fail due to something that was to clean it. See I have no choice but to use the machine my throat is the size of a five-year-old and I am 6 ' 3" 300 lbs so I need my machine to work So can anyone help with real knowledge about these cleaning systems it would be greatly apreciated....                  Thank you  Dont-know

The most commonly used "cleaning system" employs ozone which is an effective sanitizer but does not clean. Another uses UV light which will  also kill microorganism but does not clean. Both require regular cleaning with a mild detergent to be effective. Since cleaning with a mild detergent removes and kills microorganisms, the machines are not necessary. If you do a search in the forum for SoClean you will find a lot of information.

All you need to keep your gear clean is detergent and water. Those ozone machines like SoClean are the ones with the reputation for damaging seals, but they also do not clean! The manufacturer will admit that ozone is no substitute for washing with detergent and water.

Larry, if you want to really uncork the therapy potential of your S9 (provided it is not a SE or Escape), download the #Sleepyhead software and give us a look at your data. The S9 is probably getting close or past your 5 year replacement schedule, so nothing cleans a CPAP like a new one. Ask your doctor to write a script for a Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset. We can probably get you comfortable in ways you never imagined. If your machine does not produce data, getting the Autoset will provide you with an auto-adjusting CPAP which will better meet your needs and not require a new sleep test.
