Mask Confusion - Apnearon - 06-15-2019 New to apnea treatment, and new to this forum I’m going through Mask hell, most of my therapy has been fighting with my mask sealing, from searching the web the mask is supposed to be adjusted for comfort. I have 2 mask a Philips Respironics Medium full mask and a Philips-Respironics under nose and over mouth mask and I’m sure I’m a Medium size for the mask. Now how do I get a comfortable fit and block all the noise from the mask? Trying to get ALL the noise stopped, is like having my head in a vise and tightened with a cheater bar. I think I’m over thinking leaks and noise, so last night ( Sd card left in PC ) what a dummy I am, so I have no information to go by, but I started thinking Comfort, so I adjusted the straps to where I was pretty sure if it was leaking so be it (trying for comfort), thinking again, that I would check the results in the morning, did I mention I forgot and left the SD card in the computer, oh well try it again tonight with the SD card in the cpap machine. I want to say with straps tightened for comfort, I feel that noise is normal, and I noticed I feel the constant flow of air which I think should be normal, but the noise has me consumed not knowing if it an internal or external noise. Thanks for reading Oscar results - Apnearon - 06-15-2019 Took a nap and this is the results RE: Mask Confusion - DeepBreathing - 06-15-2019 The mask should not be so tight that it causes discomfort. So loosening the straps a bit was probably the right thing to do. The fact that leaks are occurring is not in itself a bad thing - your machine can detect and accommodate minor leaks no problem. Only when they get up around 24 L/min does the machine worry about them. Even without your card in the machine, you should be able to see the numbers from last night on the screen. I don't have a 10-series manual in front of me at the moment, but somewhere in the menus you'll find the sleep information including leaks. RE: Oscar results - OpalRose - 06-15-2019 Although, only an hour nap, but constant leaks. This looks more like your mask does not fit properly. How does this 1 hour nap compare to all night? If it’s just an hour, not a hugh issue, but all night leaks would affect the machine’s ability to flag Apneas. Finding the right mask is harder for some than others, and it can get costly trying different masks, but this affects your therapy and how you feel. Have your read the Mask Primer? http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.php?title=Mask_Primer RE: Mask Confusion - Apnearon - 06-15-2019 (06-15-2019, 09:49 AM)DeepBreathing Wrote: The mask should not be so tight that it causes discomfort. (See post 2 above, combined with this thread.) I tried it to where the mask was just tight enough that if it was leaking, I thought it wouldn’t be that bad. Thanks I’ve been trying since I started my cpap treatment a couple of weeks, and I been trying the mask to tight because my mind was trying to stop sounds that I thought were leaks, so in the results here I tried it at a comfortable tightness maybe to loose now RE: Mask Confusion - Stom - 06-15-2019 (06-15-2019, 07:21 AM)Apnearon Wrote: Trying to get ALL the noise stopped, is like having my head in a vise and tightened with a cheater bar. You can't eliminate all the noise from a Phillips Dreamwear mask. The air coming through the silicone frame is noisier than some other kinds of mask designs. But you can reduce it by making sure the vents (the one on top of the frame and the one on the cushion) are not venting directly on to an object. Some people use covers over their Dreamwear frames. I don't know if that reduces noise or not. RE: Mask Confusion - Gideon - 06-15-2019 Read the Mask Primer (link in my signature) The most common problem is the mask is too tight, that is because common sense says if it leaks tighten it, if it still leaks tighten it more. The second most common problem is you are using the wrong mask for you. FYI, is you are a mouth breather you can still use a nasal mask or pillow mask. You do have to find another way to manage your mouth breathing. I am a mouth breather who converted to the P10 pillow mask and over time managed to control my mouth breathing. The Mask Primer also talks about this. Thanks Bonjour I’ve read it, but still no luck with sealing, My sister in law gave me a mask insert (small one) seems to fit better than the medical and large one but the hole is to small for the headset adapter. Going this morning to get a small mask to fit head gear.
