AirSense10 auto keeps sending data, even though it’s in Airplane Mode - OperaSinger - 08-06-2019

As a privacy rights advocate, I prefer to take my SD card to my doc. So I keep my machine in Airplane Mode. Got a shock at my office visit when they already had my data and refused my SD card. When I called my DME, they said they showed that Airplane Mode was OFF, even though I was looking at the Green airplane icon on the screen during the call. ResMed hasn’t responded to request for help. DME just shrugs and says “Talk to ResMed.”  I’ve only had this machine for a couple of months, but my husband has had the same model 2 years without this problem. I’m still in my mandatory rental phase, so I  can’t open it up and detach any wiring. Nothing in the Clinicians manual. Anybody else have this problem? Any ideas of what to do? Thanks.

If you feel your machine isn’t working the way it should, return it to the DME, especially if it’s in the rental period and under warranty. Request that they exchange it.

If you didn't sign a form authorizing your DME and/or you physician and ResMed to have access to your CPAP machine it might be legally possible to write ResMed and inform them that you do not authorize the receipt or storrage of your cellular data by ResMed. Without ResMed, neither your DME nor your physician can get the data. ResMed can turn the service off. But I don't know if they have ever responded to a demand letter like that. What should be and what actually is aren't always the same thing.

There is no easy way to physically switch off or disconnect the cellular modem. There are some threads about ways it can be done by a determined person with the right knowledge and tools but it doing so risks inadvertent damage to the machine that would not be covered under warranty.

Exchange it. Don't let them get away with it. And to refuse your card? That's just rude. Inform them, verbally and in writing, that you do not want them to download data. That you will bring in the card. There's no way you can change the data on it other than delete days. That harms you so why would anyone do it?

If it’s broken get the DME to exchange it. If the DME won’t, they’re broken and then you exchange them.

Until you can exchange it, wrap it in aluminum foil.  Rolleyes

Wow, thanks for all the input!  I am going to insist on a replacement machine.  The airplane mode is definitely not working.  Anybody know how I can check and see if the next one is sending data? I went for two months not knowing, until I went to my doc.  Is there a way for me, as a patient, to access that data somehow, to check?  Is it going to ResMed or my DME?

I really appreciate everybody's help.

I wonder if the MyAir app pulls data from the same place.  I may have to test that later - turn on airplane mode for a night and see if MyAir updates in the morning.

Pry open the front panel from the bottom with your fingernail. remove the hose, unscrew the front 2 screws and 2 on the back, pry the big panel from the back of the machine and proceed to remove it by slightly bending it to the front. on the right side of the opening there is a pin connector plug with 3 wires going to the motherboard, unplug it. It will no longer send anything.

This is highly disturbing.

@crowtor is this easily reversible? Thank you.
