question about airflow - Barbara.Levitan - 03-13-2020
I have a DreamStation and DreamWare full face mask. Pressure is 11. Most of the time the airflow is very soft, so I hardly notice it, but sometimes it is really "aggressive." Which is the way it should be?

The CPAP is a pressure device, and uses the flow needed to maintain positive pressure as set. Leaks are what causes flow. There is an intentional leak at the mask vent, but if any other leaks occur at a mask seal or through your mouth, flow will increase as the machine tries to compensate for pressure loss. So the answer to your question is, the normal operation of the machine should be a quiet flow sufficient to maintain pressure. Feeling like air is blasting through the mask indicates a leak and abnormal operation.
