Apt with Sleep specialist (MD) today, what are some questions I may ask? - Remmy - 01-13-2021

Hi. I have a first apt with the 'sleep specialist" dr today (previously always communicate w tech).

I am making up a list of concerns and symptoms to discuss and hope he considers my Oscarr data helpful.

Can you guys think of important stuff to ask him? He is a Pulmonologist and critical care dr as well as sleep. It took two months to get this appt (virtual). I hope to get an inlab sleep study out of this apt. ( I am scheduled for CV vaccine next week as I work in health care so I feel ok going to hospital for study).

Also I have not downloaded data in a while and see Oscar is now scoring RERA! which I also have. I hope he will address the RERA. I feel like I have complex apnea. Oscar notes lots of 'clear airway' events, that refers to Central Apnea? OSA and Hypopneas are all in the mix....does that define 'complex". for the record CPAP has pulled me back from the edge but in no way do I feel relieved from treatment...hence the apt today!

Thanks so much!

Remmy, in the charts you have posted in the past, your CAI ranges from 0.4 to 1.3. This does not rise to the definition of complex or central apnea. You have virtually no obstructive events and past charts did not show the RERA. If you want to discuss that with us, it would help if you posted the chart that concerns you with a view of the full night and a closeup 3 minute view of the flow rate to verify if it arises from obstruction. A good practice for effectively communicating your concerns to your doctor or technician, would be for you to clearly communicate your concerns here. To this point, you seem to have effective good therapy, and have some sleep arousal issues that may or may not be related to your therapy.

Your last thread specifically asked questions about RERA but you did not reply to those that offered input. http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread-Oscar-chart-how-to-interpret-where-are-RERA Maybe that should be the thread you continue to use to ask therapy questions and how to address issues with your doctor? I can merge the threads if you wish to keep this conversation more coherent and related to your past questions. We prefer you keep therapy questions together.

Hi.
Thank you for your response. You are right, I have not been here in a long while due to computer crashing and apple store not open for repairs.
Im sorry I didn't respond to first post, I wasn't being disrespectful (intentionally) just couldn't get back here until now.
And thank you, if you can merge the two posts iv made that would be helpful. I am not a whiz by any stretch!
My numbers on cpap are for some reason a little worse of late.. granted still within the less than 5 AHI but to be honest if they are over 1.0-1.3 (ish), I feel I haven't slept. I dont have any other health issues and I dont lay wake or toss and turn. I am awoken by a racing heart and that is defiantly related to sleep disturbance and very difficult to live with....

I have learned how to zoom in on events and flow rate on chart so I can see if I am able to post that to be more concise.

Thanks,
Remmy

edit. how do I keep my questions together as you suggested? can I go back and find my previous post?

If you'd like the threads merged, Sleeprider said he can take care of it. Just tell him it's OK to do so.

I merged the threads. It's no problem, and it really helps us to have fast access to your history with questions like this. If you want to post some updated charts, maybe we can offer some ideas on questions you can ask. We can look to see if flow limitation or other parameters have changed.
