Introduced my sleep clinic to OSCAR - Boxermum - 07-30-2021

Had a telephone appointment today with my sleep clinic.
I am in the UK and have been trying to promote OSCAR for UK patients. I was nearly thrown off the Sleep Apnea FB page for banging on about OSCAR and trying to post your flyer on there ?

Anyway the guy who called me was a respiratory physiology guy and he started talking to me like I was a 3 year old, telling me how well I was doing, so I started quizzing him on what info he gets from my machine and it was literally nothing worth having. I started talking about Central events, flow limits, EPR etc I then quizzed him on how, even when I asked for help they could not suggest anything to help me but when I asked you  guys for help you sorted me out within hours. He was lost for words at this point.

The upshot is he has gone to look at OSCAR. He was not expecting the onslaught I gave him and it took him by surprise but I wasn't going to let him off lightly. I told him he was doing a disservice to his patients by not having all the information and not being able to advise them correctly. He signed off by saying "it has been an education".

Hopefully others can benefit from what he now knows.

Have him contact me. Tell him I would love to have him, with his professional training, help us guide the direction of OSCAR.
To be clear, this is a serious offer.

Good for you!

I'm curious, do the folks at the sleep clinics not use ResScan or similar software for other CPAP machines? It presents similar detailed data as OSCAR and is designed for clinician use, the "official" option.

Of course here in the US I wouldn't expect any medical professional to spend so much time caring for me. Too busy billing $800 for a 5 minute glance.

I really don't think he knew enough to be able to help.?

Most of the sleep industry is drilled into the issue CPAP/APAP for OSA and cured as soon as it approaches 5 AHI. The 3 most important numbers, in order of importance to them are.
1. AHI
2. AHI
3. AHI

There are those that will disagree and say
1. Yachyt payment
2. Mansion Payment
3. then maybe AHI

Seriously, most have AirView, or Orchastrater (the newer products) available to them and some do pay attention to the numbers, but even when they do the conclusion is usually ok, looks good, see me in a year. IF AHI is <= 5 they almost never look beyond that.

I asked him what information he could see from my SD card and he only had the AHI. He said he didn't see the times of my apneas so he wouldn't be able to pick up on the clusters I was getting from positional sleep apnea. I found this very weird as how can they help and advise us without relevant information.

Here's the note my sleep clinic put in my chart:

Code:
Today's CPAP download shows an apnea-hypopnea index of 1.3 events/hr, minimal mask leak, and excellent compliance,
wearing CPAP 100% of the time for an average of 6.5 hours per night.

CPAP Download
CPAP Pressure (cm):    7-8
Home Care Company:    ()
Machine Type:    AirSense S10
Days of use?    95
Percent (%) of days used?    100
Hours of use on days used?    6
Minutes of use on days used?    34
Average daily hours of usage, all days?    6
Average daily minutes of usage, all days?    34

Epworth Sleepiness Scale Score:    16

For that they billed $144.00 and my insurance company allowed $82.66, and I paid 20% of that. What did I get for my $16.53? Certainly not noticing the night that I ranted about in this thread... http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread-Why-I-hate-MyAir-more-than-the-heat-of-1000-suns

It doesn’t matter where you live, those doctors don’t give a sh*t about your detailed results.
If I was doing my job like this I would be fired in no time.
They should have at least some interest in what they do…

I got my CPAP from ENT. On the second visit after getting it, it became clear he can’t advise anything. Was at least I impressed with Oscar data and my analysis.

I went to specialist in Sleep Clinic to cross check analysis I received here (THANK YOU ALL!).
Guy showed me data in PDF, so he couldn’t zoom on details either. All he was watching at was AHI. If it’s under 5 it’s OK. Man they have to brainwash them throughly there.

When I asked about CA, breathing pattern and some other stuff he just offered me overnight test with ECG since he can’t say anything more based on data.
No sh*t if it’s PDF and he doesn’t even care.

I paid like 7 bucks with insurance for this visit so don’t care, but at least now I know if I want good treatment I have to do it myself.
(with your helpWink )
