Pressure Increases w/o Events - Steptoe - 05-03-2022
I use a DreamStation 2 with APAP pressures at 9.5 min., 11.0 max., with A-Flex at 1.
I have recently noticed numerous pressure increases that do not appear to be in response to or have any relation to apnea, hypopnea, or other events. This often occurs at the beginning of the night before I fall asleep, but it also occurs while I am sleeping at various times throughout the night. I have attached OSCAR screenshots that illustrate this issue. I am in the DreamStation 2 OSCAR test group. It was my understanding that APAP pressure increases only happen in response to events and do not occur in advance to prevent events.
Any ideas as to why this is happening or if it is something I should be concerned about.

If you are referring to the "blips" in your pressure graph, this is common on a Philips CPAP to test to see if you need a pressure increase.

Yes, I was referring to the "blips." Going back through my OSCAR reports, I now see that this happens every night. I don't know why I just noticed it for the first time today. What I don't understand is, if I am not having any events, why does the APAP perform these blips to see if I need a pressure increase? Wouldn't the fact that I am not having events tell the machine that a pressure increase is not necessary?
At any rate, it sounds like these "blips" aren't a problem so I won't worry about them. Thanks for the explanation.

You need to address that question to the geniuses that designed that algorithm at Philips.
"Hey Marv, what if we jacked up the pressure every now and then . . ."
