Update Oscar 1.2.0 to 1.4.0 on Ubuntu 18.04 - mcman56 - 09-26-2022

I'm running 1.2.0 on Ubuntu 18.04 and would like to update to 1.4.0.  I see some notes about purging old versions before installing new ones but I'm not sure this applies to me.  Can I just load 1.4.0 on top of 1.2.0 such that it picks up all of the existing settings?  What is the easiest way?

No! Purge the old program prior to installing 1.4.0.  There can be files that do not get overwritten that can be incompatible with the newer version.   Your OSCAR_Data file and its contents, which include your settings, are untouched by preforming this purge.

I didn't remember what is the version what include big modifications to suit the FHS.
you have to purge the old version with :
sudo apt purge <package name> (I think it's oscar but maybe with another case : Oscar or OSCAR)
do
dpkg -l | grep -i oscar
to know
The purge command will erase all the folders (old & new location) (except the one with your own data).
Then after having download the deb file
apt install <deb file with full path - ./ if it is the current directory).
