Dreamstation 2 Questions - chazmofo - 01-29-2023

Hi Y'all
I'm brand new, so I'll apologize in advance for any and all missteps. I'm 63 and have been "therapized" using CPAP for 23 years after a diagnosis of mild sleep apnea and an initial prescribed CPAP pressure of 7. Over the years I have had several machines (all either ResMed or Philips) that were prescribed or recommended by my sleep therapist. In January 2018, I purchased a Dreamstation 1 and used it in APAP mode for virtually all of the last five years. As you might have guessed, I am one of a gazillion folks affected by the Philips recall. After a long wait, I was finally sent a Dreamstation 2 Auto Advanced with Humidifier. The whole situation (along with the reality of my current financial and insurance situations) has caused me to take a deeper dive into my apnea therapy plan and I decided to become more knowledgeable about my condition and how to manage it.

Part of my recent journey involved becoming more educated about what the machines record and how I could view and interpret the data (back to the financial and insurance topic... ). I am fortunate to have discovered OSCAR and have spent a lot of time over the past week learning all I can about what it records and how to understand it. I still have much to learn, but it is a fantastic resource and I'm glad to have access to it.

One of the primary resources I have used lately to learn more about my condition and ways to effectively manage it has been YouTube videos posted by sleep therapists. One I have watched extensively is Jason of TheLankyLefty27, who turned me on to OSCAR and whose videos have helped me a ton in understanding my condition.

After watching a video in which Jason questions Philips' ability to respond to "events" during sleep in a timely and effective manner, I decided to change to CPAP mode with my machine and to set it to what seems to be the 95% average throughout my therapy's history... 8cmH20. My main question/concern is this- Is there any reason I can't trust this machine to give reliable fixed-pressure CPAP service? Another thing I don't understand (and I don't know that it affects anything) is that OSCAR showed a new "session" each hour all night... it has never shown that before. Any ideas?

Hello Chazmofo,

I have a Dreamstaion 2 from the recall as well. I looked at my OSCAR report for January 28 nite and saw a similar session end and start times. When I went to the events tab and looked at the sessions end and start times, the start and end times are the same times. I didn't see and breaks in therapy, and I am assuming it is some type of software glitch, though I am not an expert on that. I have noticed this happening on other occasions as well.
