States that require reporting OSA diagnosis to DMV! - ConnCarl - 02-09-2023 Tried a search and didn't find anything, so I thought I'd post a list of states that I'm aware of that require drivers and/or physicians to report an OSA diagnosis to the Department of Motor Vehicles or its equivalent; Florida, Maine, Maryland, New Jersey, Texas, and Virginia. Informative video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoE4YVrgZzE RE: States that require reporting OSA diagnosis to DMV! - quiescence at last - 02-09-2023 and most institute some form of periodic check to determine that you are complying with a treatment program. generally that is use of PAP technology for min of 4 hrs daily for xx% of the last xx days. QAL RE: States that require reporting OSA diagnosis to DMV! - xntrick - 04-01-2023 Is this for CDL holders or all driver’s license classes? RE: States that require reporting OSA diagnosis to DMV! - srlevine1 - 04-02-2023 Here in California, the only reports of OSA involving physicians are in licensing programs for pilots, commercial truck drivers, train engineers, and nuclear plant operators that require medical certificates, and the reports go to the state and federal agencies that issue licenses. I am not aware of physicians voluntarily contacting licensing entities unless the patient is a clear and present danger to themselves or others while at work or on the road. As far as I know, in the United States civilian population, it only applies to drivers in restricted categories where there is a great risk to the public. Notably, pilots, air traffic controllers, train engineers and railroad employees, commercial drivers, nuclear power plant operators, maritime licensees and operators of designated critical infrastructure, certain first responders, heavy equipment operators, etc. It is controlled by the licensing agencies that issue licenses and permits. RE: States that require reporting OSA diagnosis to DMV! - SarcasticDave94 - 06-15-2024 I know it applies to CDL (commercial driver license). I had a class A CDL, but hadn't been diagnosed with Apnea. A coworker was diagnosed and didn't do well with therapy, became disqualified to drive trucks. I still have a class A but non commercial drivers license. |
