Side Sleepers vs Back Sleepers - cmpman1974 - 03-23-2023 What makes some people so able to never sleep on their backs? Do you think it's lack of pain issues or something more? I have observed my sleep on video for a couple weeks now. I estimate 50-60% of the time I wind up on my back during sleep. I toss and turn a fair amount and rarely stay in one position for 30+ min, but if I do, it's on my back. At the same time, my spouse NEVER sleeps on their back. Not once in two weeks. They do not have sleep apnea and just easily flip to their left and right sides repeatedly throughout the night. The tossing and turning is far less than mine though. That must be why my spouse can get up every day on time early in the morning with no need for an alarm clock. That's not happening in a million years for me. : I was wondering if there is a genetic component to the side sleeping thing. It seems odd when people don't use positional sleep aids and have 100% success. I really need to look into what's out there to help myself as 50%+ time on my back is bad news for me. With some type of positional aid, I'm wondering if I'll be awake 5x as many times out of pain or frustration since obviously it's a natural tendancy. I recall LeftyLanky27 mentioned a link to some positional sleep aid product he liked that was $37 after the Lanky20 discount code on a website. RE: Side Sleepers vs Back Sleepers - desm0nd - 03-23-2023 I think it's just habit. I was always a side sleeper and in the last 2 years I could only sleep on one side due to a compressed nerve. I think sleeping on one side is causing me jaw issues (from the pressure only pushing one way). I switched to my back recently for the last 2 months, and it is really really hard. I just feel way more relaxed and cozy on my side. I have gotten better on my back but occasionally if I cant fall asleep on my back I will switch to my side and then try to go back to my back when I wakeup to pee. RE: Side Sleepers vs Back Sleepers - Nightynite - 03-23-2023 I always thought the way you sleep now is how your mama laid you down to sleep when you were a baby. It’s kinda like imprinted now. If so, my Mom should've tossed me on my side more. : RE: Side Sleepers vs Back Sleepers - OpalRose - 03-23-2023 (03-23-2023, 11:29 AM)Nightynite Wrote: I always thought the way you sleep now is how your mama laid you down to sleep when you were a baby. I'm pretty sure my mom laid me on my stomach (according to some old photos), which is a big no-no for todays parents. Somehow I managed to survive that! Anyway, I've always been a side sleeper, but do turn from side to side quite a bit, due to arm, hip and leg pain. Back sleeping for any length of time is uncomfortable for me. Ive been looking for something to record myself as well RE: Side Sleepers vs Back Sleepers - pilothaz - 03-23-2023 For a camera you could look and any simple security cam that has nightvision (IR). Options could be Wyze Cam, Eufy cam etc. You would not need the pan and zoom ones as your bed would be a fixed location. One thing to note on that would be if you chose one make it continiously record or can do events (but turn off sound and just use on motion which would be your toss and turn). RE: Side Sleepers vs Back Sleepers - stanleyjack - 03-23-2023 No idea, I am someone who could never sleep on their back, I tend to like curling to my side.
