Airbreak Hash not matching? - YouTakeMyBreathAway - 04-21-2023

Hey everyone,

I saw a few mentions of people airbreaking their device so wanted to see if anyone went through this and successfully resolved it.

I just got a new Airsense 10 and tried to airbreak it, but the process of patching the stm32.bin does not complete because the checksum does not match.

The wiki says to contact them if this happens, but there's no contact information specified - has anyone been able to find a path forward?

Thanks!

I recommend running a new checksum and edit the file using the new value.

Replacing the checksum worked, but it actually did not unlock any additional modes for me. It does now say "HACKED!", but still only CPAP and APAP.

Do you know why that may be?

If my memory serves me correctly, each parameter uses an 8-bit word to determine which features are displayed and the extent of available choices. Without seeing the files, I couldn't tell you which ones were not reset.

I was able to make it work; the issue was that I didn't comment out "patch_code" in their patch script, which failed and then it didn't run the rest of the patch.

The modes are now all unlocked and when I change to VAuto for example I do get the additional PS option, but for example "Trigger" and "Cycle" seem to be missing, which is weird. I did get "Trigger" and "Cycle" to show up when patching w/ the "all_menu" option, but that one is very messy b/c it shows options that aren't even available for the given mode.

Is this something you ran into as well?

Yes!  This code was used as a proof-of-concept demonstration, and nothing more.  It was never intended to be put into actual use.  It came about during the Covid ventilator shortage to prove the Resmed could be repurposed, by changing the firmware code.

I compared the code for an AirCurve Vauto against the Autoset. I was amazed that it is only a few bytes different. It's kind of like if you change about 3 chromosomes, we would be a dolphin. Big Grin

The last post soliciting hacked binaries was deleted.

The AirBreak (and other efforts) were all "proof of concept" to use CPAP machines as ventilators for emergency use during COVID, that's all.  We never promoted using the hack as a way to circumvent paying for a higher-level machine, nor will we in the future.

So general discussion of the reason for the hack is fine.  But specific details (soliciting or distributing binaries for the hack or how to accomplish the hack) should not be publicly posted, since this is essentially a violation of our "pirated software" statement in Rule #3.
