Nose Pillow with congestion - SleepSundogSleep - 10-02-2023
I use the Resmed AirFit P30i with nose pillows that fit in my nostrils. When I am congested it can be difficult to use. I have tried nose strips but they often come off during the night. Has anyone tried the AIRMAX® Nasal Dilator? It's a clip that you insert into your nostrils. I am assuming that it will interfere with the seal the mask makes with my nostrils. Has anyone used them, or have a suggestion on what to use if I am congested? I'd prefer not to use a nasal decongestant spray.

I looked at the Airmax for reference. I have never used a nasal dilator, however, since you are using the P30i, you might want to consider swapping the pillow out and for the N30i nasal cushion (P30i & N30i use the same frame). You may get a better seal with your nasal dilator.

It depends on why you are congested. If it’s allergies and you are set against using nasal sprays (ones like flonase or azelastine work extremely well for many of us), try allergy pills. If it is a deviated septum or turbinates, then you need an ENT to take a look. If it’s a cold or flu, try the usual home remedies. You can also try a nasal rinse with those found at the local pharmacy (I use them with distilled water and a sanitized neti pot).
You could switch to a full-face mask while congested (something I do as well on occasion), but you need to have one you know works well and can switch with minimal issues.
