AHI Increased - Covid Positive - amfar33 - 12-26-2023

Hello Guys

I tested positive for Covid Saturday night. Started with body aches, sore throat and fever but when trying to fall asleep my oxygen levels would drop and it would jolt me awake. It almost felt like I could not breath on my own and i forgot to breath. It's like the part of my brain that makes me take breaths was off Weirdest feeling ever. I just got a chance to go and check my Oscar data. My AHI usually is around 0.5-2 with the CPAP machine running but noticed that night my AHI was over 5 which is the first since I have started using a CPAP machine. I just found it interesting and thought I should post the graph to compare it with another night before I got Covid. I'm just starting to learn about Oscar but does the graphs show anything interesting about the first night I had Covid that is different from the other non-covid night?

Also is it normal for the oxygen levels to decrease as you are about to fall sleep and during your sleep?

In the last night, You are having some of positional apnea.  You can see positional apnea where either H or Oa events are clustered together.  There are not a huge amount but getting rid of as many as you can will lower your AHI.
Positional apnea can NOT be controlled by pressure changes.  You have to find out what position you are getting into and cutting off your own airway.  Have you changed your sleep position?  Sleeping on your back?  Using more (or new) pillows?  These things can cause positional apnea by chin dropping to your sternum and cutting your airway.  Think of it of a kinked hose – nothing can get through – you have to unkink the hose…
IF you can’t make a simple change like changing to a flatter pillow helps then you will need a collar.  I have a link to collars in my signature at the bottom of the page.  It shows people who are not wearing a collar and the SAME person wearing a collar.  There is a huge difference between the two.

I too see positional indication.

Because of the onset of COVID I'd rather try a higher pressure for the next week assuming it's resulting from a respiratory issue instead of a positional.

Maintain an EPR of 3 and increase both min and max by 3 cmw, yes it's a lot, but only for the duration of the COVID, I want some impact of this the next time you sleep. Return to normal when you COVID symptoms go away.
