Calculating AHI - Poolboy - 01-05-2024

Why is time duration not included in calculating AHI?  The time length of an apnea must play a huge roll in its effect on us,  but it doesn't get mentioned.
Not sure if I’m explaining this well, but could there be some sort of time weighting factored into the index?

As I understand, this is how the AHI works:
-Stop breathing for 10 seconds = 1 event.
Stop breathing for 50 seconds = 1 event.

That looks like a significant weakness in how the medical system calculates and totalizes  events.

Thoughts?

You are correct. But the established standard is event is 10+ seconds. That is what all the devices use and OSCAR reports.
