Help with Lofta WatchPAT ONE results - kenm - 02-17-2024

Hello everyone,

I recently took a home sleep test from Lofta using the WatchPAT ONE and would appreciate some help with determining next steps. I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea with a low AHI and an RDI of 9.7 and an REM-predominant RDI of 20.4 (not sure what the significance of this is) and CPAP treatment was prescribed. I have attached the report. I don't usually wake up feeling refreshed and sometimes have moderate to severe daytime drowsiness. I am 20 years old with a BMI of 22 and am fairly physically active. Should I start treatment with a CPAP? If so, are there specific models or features you would recommend? I'm looking at the ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet Card-to-Cloud version (I know it doesn't connect to smartphones but can use the SD card) because it's fairly affordable but am not sure if it has all the features I need. Thank you for your help!

At this level, starting CPAP treatment is optional, and most insurance would not cover it. There are enough RDI events and snoring, that I'm certain CPAP can be beneficial, but it takes some commitment and adapting to the use of the mask and pressure. For the type of problems your test suggests, the Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset C to C is perfect, and you can use OSCAR to optimize. The Resmed CPAP has expiratory pressure relief (EPR) which acts like up to 3-cm of bilevel pressure support. This makes therapy more comfortable and provides an assist on inspiration to make breathing easier and reduce flow limitations (upper airway resistance) that almost no other CPAP provides. If you choose to move forward, I recommend starting with a nasal pillows mask as a minimal interface that is easy to seal and use. It leaves your vision and face free to talk and most people tolerate it better than full face or nasal mask therapy.

Thank you for the information! Do you think I should be concerned about the heart rate spikes recorded by the sleep test? I'm still a bit torn on whether CPAP will be worth it.
